Hoodlums Cart away with Computer Sets, other Valuables at CSCS Uyo

By Shadrach Okon

It was a shocking scene at Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Oku Ikono Uyo, as students and staff of the school arrived the school compound only to discover that hoodlums had burgled into the computer laboratory of the school and carted away with computer sets, air conditioners and other valuables.

According to the school security who was on duty, the incident took place on Monday night. The security on duty was allegedly beaten and placed under supervision while the operation went on in the midnight. The computer sets and the school computer laboratory were provided to the school by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) an independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria, as a way of promoting computer literacy among secondary school students under the body’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The hoodlums had also attempted to cart away the school generating set but could not remove it from its place of installation because of the concrete used in the floor.

Meanwhile, one aspect of the hoodlums’ operation that leaves questions lingering on many lips is that the three computer sets which were provided by corps members to the school as part of their Community Development Project were left behind by the hoodlums.

It is also on record that the first generating set that was provided to the school by Nigerian Communications Commission was carted away in the same school while staff and students of the school were on holiday break before another generating set was provided to the school by NCC. Further investigation reveals that Community Secondary Commercial School Ikot Oku Ikono, was one among the two schools in the state that had the privilege of benefiting from the NCC Corporate Social Responsibility initiative for secondary schools in the state.
