I am still in PDP – Ukata

By Saviour Ekpe

Contrary to speculations making the rounds that the former two terms Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Chief Ukata Akpan has defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), the former lawmaker said that he is still a bonafide member of the PDP.

Speaking to Century Newsfront in his residence in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Chief Ukata otherwise known as the Paramount Ruler of the then Assembly said the news is false about his defection, “it is not true that I have defected to All Progressives Congress but it is in the pipeline”.

Chief Ukata Akpan, a former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly who represented Ini State Constituency added that though the news of his defection is false, he is making investigations and consultations and will leave the PDP when the time is ripe added that he has a singular task of returning Governor Emmanuel for a second term in office, he described the governor as a God fearing, gentleman, “governor Udom Emmanuel has not done any wrong to me, he is our own, good and God fearing, gentleman. I will do all within me to ensure his return for a second term”.

The elder statesman who pride himself as one of the founding Caucus members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) decried ill-treatment meted on some of them by government appointees, those he described as political neophytes who do not know political rudiments, “the problem governor Emmanuel has is these people that were brought to politics who do not know rudiments of party politics, these are the people that will spoil things for the governor”.

He advised the governor to subject his would-be-appointees for screening first by his or her community, added that communities know who a person is, whether they have the capacity to deliver.
