The Ada Usung Akada Annang who is the village head of Utu Edem Usung in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and clan head-elect of Otoro Ubo, His Royal Highness, Obong (Dr.) Ime S. Ekpo has explained his reasons for returning to the PDP.
Dr. Ekpo who also the spiritual head of World Congress Realm said that though he has not benefited from any government in the state, it was incumbent on him to as both a traditional leader and spiritual head to give direction to his people, “my community is very orderly and law abiding, as a leader there is no way I should not take leadership responsibility at this critical time of our political history in our state. When I looked at the impending injustice that was about to be meted in the state, I had to immediately intervene for instance, Obong Attah who represented Uyo Senatorial District ruled this state for eight years likewise Chief Godswill Akpabio from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, why should the case of Udom be different?, he queried.
The clan head-elect observed that during the reign and administration of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, there has not been any known case of kidnapping, hired assassin, political killings but has been a reign of consistent peace and tranquility in the state “and this is what we wanted as a people and Udom has given us, then why should we look outside the box”, he asserted.
Explaining why he addressed the people in his polling unit, he maintained that constant touch with his people is his regular responsibility, “as you came to see me addressing my people to vote the winning party, I discouraged vote buying and selling in my community because this is what I describe as hired assassin. Before this year’s election, people used to throw bombs and cause a lot of crises in this particular unit but today, such is a thing of the past that is why I came to speak for calmness”.
Dr. Ekpo who is Life patron, National Association of Ikot Ekpene Students (NAIKES) noted that in his leadership, he carries all strata along including the youths, adult, male and female and the less privileged people in his community.
Asking on his inspiration to grade roads in his domain he said, “it is like an hobby to me. I do this every year with personal money, not community money I make sure that all roads, I said all roads in my village are graded every year, sometime I extended it to other villages. The major regret I have about government of the state is that, we in Utu Edem Usung have not felt government presence because there is no single road that is tarred in this village. I want to use this medium to call on our working governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to please, remember Utu Edem Usung in your lofty projects. Utu Edem Usung is one of the communities in Akwa Ibom State that is beckoning for help, please come and help us out”.
He called on the people of the state to redouble their support for the governor so as to encourage him to do more to the generality of the state in his second term in office, “governor Udom’s second term in office is like giving somebody a blank cheque. We strongly believe that he will multiply his achievements in providing people-oriented projects and programmes only if the people will encourage him”, he noted.
