As quest for changing the political narratives of “Winner takes all” methodology prevailing in our democratic society continues to gather momentum, the Paramount Ruler of Ikono, Edidem Nyong Obop and the entire members of the Traditional Rulers Council while receiving Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo (alias Macaire) and Hon. Asuquo Nana Udo in his palace during a courtesy call at the weekend applauded the sterling qualities of the duo particularly their philanthropic profiles within the length and breadth of Ikono Local Government Area.
Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ikono/Ini House of Representatives for the 2019 elections is a former General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment of Intels Nigeria Limited; a renowned Community Leader and a man of outstanding generosity whose feat in the local government leadership has attracted an uncommon unprecedented followership.
Also, it interesting to note that Hon. Asuquo Nana Udo (Mbakara) who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for Ikono State House of Assembly election have held various positions in the local government such as a supervisory Councilor and Transition Committee Chairman, Ikono.
Addressing the two candidates with regards to next year 2019 general elections, the Paramount Ruler of Ikono, Edidem Nyong Obop Used the occasion of the significant visit of the duo to admonish the youth of Ikono to be Law-abiding with respect to elders while refusing their morality to be corrupted in this era of social vices. The traditional Ruler also implored the visiting candidates to ensure violence free elections come 2019.
However, the Royal Father reiterated the commitment of the Traditional Rulers Councils of Ikono to always upholding the tenets of the TRC Members by playing the fatherly role in the political struggles of the area said that the TRC folds would throw their weights behind any candidate particularly whose visionary and purposeful driving manifestoes would further transform the land of Ikono to a lasting economic growth and development sphere.
While praying God to see the two gentlemen through their dreams of actualization the 2019 elections in the area praised the past performance of Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo and Hon. Asuquo Nana Udo of their leadership ingenuities, magnanimity and transformative support to a vast majority’s indigene of Ikono even before venturing into active politics. In view of being optimistic about the chances of the duo emerging victorious at the polls, the traditional leader assured them of a peaceful conduct and behavioral attitude of Ikono voters during and after the 2019 elections.
Edidem Obop who stressed that democracy as all inclusive phenomenal system observed that for Federal Government, States and Local Governments in the nation to achieve more effective and efficient standard of living to all citizens in the country in terms of growth, development, infrastructural facilities, affordable health care services and education in the country, democracy must continue to be strengthened with improvement in the conduct of electioneering system by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others states electoral bodies in the future.
Responding on behalf of the councils of village heads Ikono, the Village Head of Ukpom Ita, Etteidung Ntuk Akpan Ntuk who in his speech Commended the two leading contending candidates for House of Representatives in Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency and State House of Assembly for Ikono State Constituency Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo (Macaire) and Hon. Asuquo Nana Udo (Mbakara) respectively for paying a mutual respect to the TRC in order to seek for advice and support in the 2019 general elections.
Etteidung Ntuk having extolled the leadership prowess of the two candidates to beat in next year election urged them to play the 2019 election in the local government with thorough level of peace, understanding and violence free, which is global based practices of electioneering processes devoid of blood bath and crises as applicable in the western world. While praying the gods of the land to guide and protect them during and after the elections struggles, he charged the candidates to ensure the attraction of lofty and lives touching projects to the area after clinching the much awaited victory at the polls.
He used the occasion to applaud His Excellency the Executive Governor of the state Deacon Udom Emmanuel for effectively transforming the land of Akwa Ibom State through his five point agenda of industrialization, Job creation, Education, Infrastructural reconsolidation and others in the state. He called on the entire people of Ikono to vote Deacon Udom Emmanuel en-masse as well as Other PDP Candidates in the 2019 elections.
Also speaking earlier on the visit, the Clan Head of Ndiya, Obong Godswill Umoh expressed satisfaction for the two candidate’s credibility which he said would help improve upon the lives of the people of Ikono in the nearest future. He however called on them to charge their supporters mostly the youth to shun restiveness, violence and avoid taking laws into their hands during the electioneering campaigns as they set to tour the land of Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas respectively.
Reacting to the Traditional Rulers blessings, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo and Hon. Asuqup Nana Udo in a joint statement expressed their enthusiasms for the symbolic blessings of the traditional rulers council members including the Paramount Ruler and commended them for peaceful Co-existence and unity of purpose among the good people of Ikono with a promise to be a service servant of the people of Ikono when they massively voted them to represent the zone in the National and State Assemblies respectively. They assured the TRC and the good people of Ikono of effective and efficient representations so as to improve the living standard of every son and daughter of Ikono at all cost.
