The clan head of Itam, His Royal Highness, Etebom Donald Uboh has called politicians, leaders of thought, all village heads in Itam Clan to shun divisive tendency and focus on the development of Itu local government area.
He said this during a call on him in his palace by Itu Media professionals’ Forum (IMPF) led by the coordinator, Evang. Saviour Ekpe last weekend. The royal father noted that if everyone put the progress of Itu in the centre of his mind, the local government would maintain its number one position in the area of agriculture, industrialization among others. He also charged the people of the area to be focused and key into the programmes of the state government so that it could experience meaningful development and benefit from dividend of democracy as spearheaded by the state government led by Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
The royal father decried the ill-treatment mated on women that sell in Itam market by some unscrupulous elements that have no respect on women folk, “I am deeply worried on the way and manner our women are being maltreated in Etaha Itam market. This is what I saw by myself, not being told. The other day, I saw a poor woman being dragged to the mud that are in the market, her commodities thrown out and she was crying but not for my intervention, I don’t know what could have happened to her. I want to call on the state and local government to see on what to do to ameliorate the suffering and harassment of our women in that market”.
The Clan Head charged traditional rulers in Itu to be focused in their doings by advising their subjects to shun cultism, armed robbery and other social vices to tame the growing rates of insecurity in the area.
Earlier, the coordinator of the Evang. Saviour Ekpe thanked the Clean Head of Itam and all his council members for granting them the audience. He pledged the clan support to governor Udom Emmanuel and his government.
Mr. Ekpe noted that the essence of the group visit to the clan head and his council members was to bring the media community closer to home. He noted that the role of the media to the development of the society cannot be over-emphasized hence, the home coming to avail themselves with the activities, problems and challenges faced with a view to bringing them to public glare for possible solution.
He announced that Itu Media Professionals’ Forum (IMPF) is made up of media professionals in the print, electronics and social media platforms in both public and private sectors. He thanked the royal fathers for the sustainable peace witnessed in the respective areas, charged them to keep up noted that there cannot be any progress and development in any environment of chaos, violence and crisis.
He called on the elites and well-to-do individuals from the area to look inward, think deep on what to do to bring back the past glory of Itu in the area of education, industry, politics, agriculture, entrepreneurial skills that Itu is known for and engender peaceful coexistence among the people.
Some of the village heads who also spoke at the meeting lamented on poor roads in their communities especially in Mbak Itam where the road project is not completed, but they print a billboard picture showing that the project is completed.
