The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. AniekanUmanah has commended the State Hospitals Management Board for undertaking a free blood pressure screening and sensitization programme for staff of his ministry.
Mr. Umanah gave the commendation when the health team had audience with him in his office shortly after the sensitization programme. The Information boss was happy that the team was sensitive to the health needs of the people and encouraged them not to relent but complement the effort of the State government in improving health care delivery in the State.
Earlier, the leader of the team and Director, Public Health, Hospitals Management Board, Mrs. Rose Udofia had informed the Commissioner that they were in his office to brief him on the activities of the Public Health Department of the Board which includes carrying out enlightenment programme on reproductive health and other healthy practices that will engender good health amongst the people.
The discussion featured free blood pressure screening and weight check on the Hon. Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary, Pastor Praise Okon.
In a similar development, staff of the Ministry have been sensitized on components of Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Safe Motherhood, Nutrition, Adolescent Health and Water.
Participants which included Directors of the Ministry were informed that men need 3.3 litres of water per day and females 2.2litres adding that people should drink at least eight glasses of water every day. The staff were also taught the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables regularly as well as the need to get focused ante natal services.
Resource persons for the sensitization programme were drawn from the Hospitals Management Board and the State Ministry of Health. They included: Mrs. Grace Okon who made a presentation on Reproductive Health; Mrs. Grace Jim, Adolescent Health and Mrs. Irene Udom Essienetok, Safe Motherhood. Others were Mrs. Francisca Peter Umanah who spoke on Nutrition and Good Eating Habits, Mrs. Esther Edim spoke on the Best Time to Take Water while Mrs. Emem MfonItuh gave a talk on Family Planning.
After the sensitization programme, the health team carried out free blood pressure screening and weight check on the staff. There was also demonstration and distribution of family planning materials to interested members of staff.
Present at the event were the Director of Technical Services, Mr. Inyang Jameson who represented the Permanent Secretary, the Director, Public Relations, Mr. Sunday Antai and other management staff of the ministry.
