Inoyo Toro Mentors Public School Teachers By Uyouko Usuah

In line with its vision of eradicating poverty through investments in education as well as complementing government’s effort in improving educational standards, the Inoyo Toro Foundation has held its 2015 teachers’ mentorship workshop.

The workshop which was aimed at mentoring teachers and equipping them with the requisite skills to mentor other teachers, held at the Le-meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo.

Administering the training, the Group Chief Human Resources Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Mr. Usen Udoh, noted that there was a direct correlation between the quality of investments in education and the values and skills of a society.

He said the organization of the annual mentoring workshop for teachers in public secondary schools was the Inoyo Toro Foundation’s way of giving back to its community and supporting the effort of the government at ensuring that Akwa Ibom becomes not just a destination for tourism but that of quality skills.

Qualification for attending the teacher’s training was based on winning the first, second and third positions in the Annual Teacher’s Award for Excellence organized by the foundation in English language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Fine Arts, where the first prize winners get N250,000, N150,000 for the second prize winners and N100,000 for the third prize winners, while the winner in the Grand mentor category gets N500,000.

The content for the 2015 teachers’ mentoring session which included introduction to mentoring, effective mentoring and developing mentor-mentee relationship, mentoring tools and communication skills as well as developing a mentoring programme also featured review and interactive sessions where participants brainstormed on the different training modules.
