Itu Development Union progenitors Commended

A socio cultural group, the Itu Development Union has received commendations from their kinsman for serving as a rallying point for love, unity and cooperation between the clans, villages and individuals making up the Itu Local Government Area.

The commendation was given by the Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr Akan Okon when the group accompanied by the Incorporated Trustees of Itu, paid him a courtesy visit. Mr Akan Okon lauded members of the group for their wisdom in dropping parochial sentiments and political affiliations when pursuing issues of the development of their area.

On issues of insecurity in certain parts of the Local Government Area occasioned by the Ikot Offiong and Oku Iboku clashes as well as the state of the automobile manufacturing plant proposed for the area, the Commissioner said the state government had  put it  place adequate security measures to ensure the protection of lives and properties while liaising with the Federal Government to find a permanent solution to the incessant clash.

He said all preliminary processes leading to the commencement of the automobile plant structures were being concluded and assured that the Udom Emmanuel administration is committed to fulfilling all his campaign promises. The Commissioner encouraged the Itu people to be actively involved in agriculture and to donate their lands to government for investments in that regard. He promised to support the group to achieve its goals and also advised the Itu people to continually abide by a democratic system where the people willingly choose their representatives at all levels rather than imposition to allow for peace.

The leader of the delegation and village head of Enen Atai Itam, Professor Efanga Usua commended the Commissioner for his diligence, hardwork and achievements since his appointment. Professor Usua also lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for his pragmatic leadership style and effective management of human and material resources. He assured that the Itu people had already created a conducive environment and are receptive to any development project meant for the area.

Professor Usua stressed that the group will remain an honest liaison between the government, investors and local communities in Itu. The delegation comprised several notable indigenes of the local government area including a former representative of the local government area in the AkwaIbom State House of Assembly, Mr Kenneth Ekong.

Other goals of the Itu Development Union includes defending the cultural heritage of Itu people and maintaining a cordial relationship with other tribes, clans and groups within AkwaIbom State and Nigeria as well as engaging  in activities, programmes and projects necessary for the social, cultural, economic and educational  welfare of Itu people.
