The candidate of the 2019 elections for Itu State Constituency, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the Progressive People Alliance (PPA), Mr. Owoedinyene James Peter has thrown in the towel and conceded defeat saying that election is not a do-or-die affair.
The decision of Mr. Peter was contained in a message of congratulations sent to the member-elect of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Itu State Constituency, Hon KufreAbasi Edidem and made available to Century Newsfront, “I, Mr. Owoedinyene James Peter, candidate for the Itu State Constituency, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the Progressive People Alliance (PPA) at the 2019 general elections hereby congratulate Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, member-elect for the Itu State Constituency, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for your emergence at the just concluded polls”.
He further explained that election is not a do or die therefore, he not winning this time to get to the hallowed chambers, will certainly win other time, hence his decision, “Election, though a veritable tool for choosing a representative at any level is not a do-or-die affair if truly one aspires to serve the people”.
The one time President of the National Association of Itu Students (NAIS) Uniuyo Chapter pledged his readiness to support Itu political office holders to succeed in their respective offices, “On behalf of my family and esteemed supporters pledge my readiness to work with you and other eminent sons and daughters of Itu local government area to move our dear local government area forward”.
Mr. Peter who also congratulated Gov Udom Emmanuel and described Governor Udom for ‘emerging victoriously at the 2019 governorship election’, called on those who could not make up at the polls to join hands to develop the state instead of what he called ‘mounting unnecessary tensions, “I also use this platform to congratulate the Executive Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for emerging victoriously at the 2019 governorship election in the state. I hereby call on all other contestants, irrespective party lines whose time has not yet come, to eschew violence and mounting unnecessary tension in Itu and Akwa Ibom polity to rather join hands with elected leaders for the progress of Itu local government area and the state”.
