The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has floated a new platform, Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS), to ease admission process into higher institutions.
Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said the digital system will allow JAMB liaise with regulatory agencies at the press of a button. He listed the affected regulatory agencies and stakeholders as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the over 890 higher institutions in the country.
Oloyede, who unveiled the new technology to over 1,800 stakeholders at the JAMB office in Abuja, said the era of paper work and shuttles to JAMB office was over. He admonished institutions to prepare for the digital revolution.
He said: “This board has decided to roll out another innovation which will result in automation, accreditation and general administration matters among JAMB, regulatory agencies and institutions. “Having been able to automate the applications of over two million students, we have now put our heads together to streamline what we are doing on admission and accreditation matters. This new system will enhance efficiency, save time and archive our records.
“From the first date of January, JAMB will not receive any communication from the agencies and institutions. With about 890 institutions, JAMB can now interact with regulatory agencies on approval of new institutions, programmes, accreditation and de-accreditation of courses. We have moved from a paperless era to the digital mode. JAMB and all regulatory agencies, and about 890 institutions, can communicate instantly to take decisions on admission for candidates, available courses and de-listed courses.”
Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Prof. Abubakar Rasheed said the new automation will improve communication between JAMB and stakeholders.He said: “The new platform will enhance admission credibility. We praise JAMB’s decision to invest more credibility into the admission process. It is not surprising that JAMB has become nationally and universally respected.
“JAMB is setting the pace in terms of the ease of doing business. Efficiency and smooth operation will ensure an excellent system. We appreciate JAMB’s efforts on ease of doing business. Working together, we shall deliver under exceptionally difficult circumstances like we did during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
