Labour Commissioner Partners NDE On Manpower Development

The Commissioner Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, Prof. Victor Inoka has expressed the readiness of the Ministry to collaborate with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Akwa Ibom State, on human capacity development and job creation opportunities for Akwa Ibom people.

The Commissioner made this known in his office recently during a courtesy visit on him by the State Coordinator of NDE, Mr. Promise Eka and his management staff. During the visit, the Commissioner, Prof. Inoka, stressed that as a coordinating ministry for Manpower development, the ministry was reaching out to all relevant agencies and establishments both within and outside the state to create synergy for mutual cooperation and exchange of information on programmes that would present opportunities for the benefit of the state. Stating that, the ministry was also keen in exploring job vacancies at the Federal level to ensure a wider spread of opportunities for people in the state.

He stated that the Ministry was creating a Data Base for the collation of unemployed people to allow for proper planning for different categories of job placements, training and capacity development. He solicited the assistance of the NDE for strategic trainings in different professions, as the ministry was repositioned to drive the vision of the state Governor in manpower development for the envisaged industrialisation renaissance.

Responding, the State Coordinator of NDE, Mr. Promise Eka expressed satisfaction for the invitation and commended the Commissioner for being proactive in seeking for collaboration with relevant agencies to create employment opportunities for the people. He noted that it was an opportunity he was expecting and expressed the readiness of NDE to give the necessary assistance.

Mr. Eka emphasised that the mandate of the NDE was to train people in various capacities in order to get them ready for employment opportunities. He said that the establishment has developed many schemes to train people in different professions and vocations. That they have established skill acquisition centres in the three senatorial districts of the state. He posited that with the interest the Commissioner has shown for partnership and collaboration with other agencies, that Akwa Ibom State would be able to benefit from various government programmes which hitherto was not possible.

In her vote of thanks, while speaking further, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, Dr. (Mrs.) Valerie Obot expressed optimism that the Commissioner has come to reposition the ministry for greater productivity and that with the array of collaborations and synergy between the Ministry and other agencies, the future is sleek in terms of capacity building for Akwa Ibom people.

She appreciated the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for his yearning and aggressive drive for manpower development in the state, saying that, partnering with NDE would enhance capacity building and Manpower repositioning in the state. During the interactive session, other management staff made useful contributions that would assist the ministry work towards the attainment of its lofty goals.
