According to the President of the national body of the grunt and groan sport, ’’We know we will be showcasing the best the Nigerian nation has to offer in terms of the sport during the main event and this should serve as pre-event show for the officials and wrestlers to get themselves prepared for the big fight. As the change agent that the Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation is, perfection should be our watchword. If we get the mock championship right, then we are good to go for the main event and also get it right as well’’ explained Chief Uche.

‘’We also intend to turn the restive youths in our communities to men and women who would be useful to themselves, the society and the nation at large. They are the hope of the future national sports development. We want to use wrestling to take them out of the street, stop them from the use and abuse of drugs, build an academy for them where they can be training at a conducive atmosphere for sports growth and development locally’’ he concluded.

While still waiting for the unveiling of the championship to take place in Abuja first where President Muhammadu Buhari will flag off the show before taking it to states of Lagos, Delta, Ebonyi, Imo, Kano, Akwa Ibom and Kano respectively, Nigerian wrestlers have been training tirelessly for the Presidential professional wrestling championship.

On the readiness of the Nigerian wrestlers, the technical director of the federation, Chief Vincent Dimanozie (Iron Bone) made a roll call of wrestlers already set to participate in the mock championship as Mighty Man, Strong Bone Erujeje, Flying Dan Ko, Big Fish, Aliking the Action Disaster, Mr. Sharpman, Power Vic, Zion Lion, De Squeezer, Rocky Johnson, Mighty Progress, Iron Lady Becky, Stylish ’’J’’ and Alexandra the Queen to mention but few.

Elephando Bassey the Secretary of the Federation during an interview said: ‘’Two belts in the heavyweight and light heavyweight categories are already available while the local organizing committee has promised to get more before the main championship unfolds.  Champions are bound to emerge from different weight categories nationally and internationally during the main event and not now for the mock championship. Wrestlers would be coming from African and international world of the game. It will definitely be needful to get more titles as winners must emerge in other weight categories of cruiserweight, middleweight tag team and the ladies champion’’ Elephando narrated.

The chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Eze (Dr.) John Nwosu is of the remark that Nigeria as a nation has got lots of talents who can square up with their foreign counterparts if they have a conducive environment to operate from and that the LOC will make it possible for the participating wrestlers of this great event to smile back home after the tournament. ‘’We will not promise what we cannot do. I as the LOC chairman have been privileged to witness the training of the wrestlers. It takes a man to train and become a professional wrestler. Is it the dropkick or slamming you want to talk about?  I give kudos to the wrestlers. We will make sure they are happy, very happy after the championship.’’

Speaking to Newsmen, one of the major contenders and former Middleweight Champion, Victor Idorenyin, popularly known as POWER VIC described the mock competition as a good thing to happen in the Nigerian Pro wrestling Federation. He, therefore, called on Nigerian leaders to take up the sponsorship and see wrestling as one of the major sports that could be reckoned with since it has the capacity of putting food on the table including its entertainment disposition.
