The ever-energetic Members of Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, Voluntary Organizations & Support Groups in Ebonyi State with a deep sense of commitment & responsibility, have unanimously scored Ebonyi State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Chief Dr. David Nweze Umahi 100% for inclusive good governance & expressed their joy & commendation to His Excellency, the innovative Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Apostle David Nweze Umahi over his ascent into Law of Ebonyi State people’s oriented 2020 Revised Budget which has showcased him as the First Governor in the anal of the history of Nigeria to sign a post-COVID-19 Revised Budget.
The ebullient members of the Forum made their feelings known during an emergency meeting of All the State Executive members of the Forum & All the 13 Local Government Coordinators of the Forum held on Friday 17th July, 2020, at the Office of the Deputy Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Emmanuel Obasi who also doubles as the Supervisor of the Forum.
In their separate speeches shortly after the meeting, the Deputy Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Emmanuel Obasi & the State Coordinator, Forum of NGOs, CSOs, VOs & SGs in Ebonyi State, Comrade Charles Oleh Jnr, said that the people would continue to be appreciative & supportive to Governor David Nweze Umahi for the commencement distribution of palliatives to the two hundred (200) indigent/ vulnerable persons per Polling Unit across all the 1785 Polling Units in the State as the materials will be moved to the various Local Government Areas by their respective Caretaker Chairmen for effective sharing to the beneficiaries on Saturday 25th July, 2020. They also commended the Governor for providing palliatives to all Federal, State and Local Council staff apart from the ones earlier provided to widows hospitalised patients and religious groups.
They said that Governor Umahi has done lots of construction of mega projects & human capital empowerment & applauded the Governor for anchoring his focus much on Agriculture as contained in the budget to enable the State to boost its economic growth & recover from the pandemic known as COVID-19 which drastically affected the financial strength of the State.
According to the two leaders, the implementation of the Revised Budget would revitalize the economic growth of the State through Agriculture & urged all & sundry to embark on Agriculture as their Second Business Address to overcome the country’s dwindling economy orchestrated by the coronavirus pandemic. They extolled & poured accolades on Governor David Nweze Umahi for operating an inclusive open-door government by continually extending an invitation to & involvement of Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, Voluntary Organizations & Support Groups registered under the Forum in all the State Government functions & programmes which is really the government of the people & for the people & first of its kind since the creation of Ebonyi State. They also vowed that the ebullient members of the Forum shall continue to be supportive to the State Government in all ramifications & continually play vital roles by distinguishing themselves in its activities for monitoring compliance of people on all measures put in place by the State Government to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
Meanwhile, in their avowed determination to ensure unwavering & unflinching support & voluntary contributions to the policies & programmes of the State Government, a Committee was set up to monitor how the compiled names of Two Hundred indigent/vulnerable persons per polling unit will receive their palliatives on 25th July, 2020 at the various Polling Units in the State.
Also, another Committee had earlier been set up to examine the 2020 Reviewed Budget & make necessary recommendations to the State Government on ways to drive economic growth & sustainability in the State in line with international best practices & the committee has already submitted their recommendations to the State Government.
However, to this end, Chief Emmanuel Obasi & Comrade Charles Oleh Jnr, thanked God for healing & quick recovery of Governor David Nweze Umahi from COVID-19 & commended the entire members of the Forum for their fervent prayers especially during the one-day prayer meeting conducted on Wednesday 15th July, 2020, at Women Development Centre, Abakaliki, where the prayer points anchored on the good health of those who tested positive for COVID-19 in the state, economic growth of the State, divine protection of citizens against COVID-19 and for a peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Local Government Election.
The Forum also pledged continued unalloyed support to the policies and programmes of the State Government under His Excellency, Engr. Chief Dr David Nweze Umahi, fnse, fnate.
