The Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineering Akwa Ibom State chapter, says it is working hard to set best practices and standards in the practice of engineering in the state and country.
The state chairman of the institute, Engr. Ekerete Usak, stated this during an industrial visit to the corporate headquarters of Bil Integrated Sytems Limited, an indigenous engineering company at kilometre 6, Q.I.T. road, Ebana, Eket Local Government Area.
Engr. Usak said Bil Integrated Systems Limited was among several companies at the vanguard of setting international standards of engineering practice in their operations. He noted that the industrial visit was to promote partnership in potential areas where the services of the institute was required as well as to intimate the company of the 2016 International Conference of the association and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in the state from 18th -21st October, 2016 with the theme: “Surviving an Economy in Recession: Strategies for Mechanical Engineers”.
Engr. Usak also commended Bil Integrated Systems Limited for affording several engineering in the state an opportunity of a first-hand experience through internship programmes while training and certifying many youths in several aspects of engineering including wielding and fabrication.
The General Manager Bil Integrated Systems Limited, Mr Victor Akpe, said the 12 year old company was working hard to gain global recognition. He noted that beyond engineering, the company was also involved in the rehabilitation, training and certification of some ex-militants as well as other indigenous engineers in different aspects of engineering. Mr Akpe expressed the readiness of Bil Integrated Systems Limited to partner the association while lauding it for its effort to advance engineering practice.
The delegation was conducted round different aspects of the facility by a management staff of the company, Engr. Jerry Bassey and the Human Resources Manager, Mr Charles Ikokwu after a safety orientation by the Safety, Health and Environment Coordinator of Bil Integrated Systems Limited, Mr Ekere Afia. Areas visited included the workshop, hydro test station, stainless workshop and ware house, blasting bay as well as the technical training centre. The NIMECHE delegation comprised the State Vice Chairman of the association, Engr. Ignatius Ndayo, the secretary, Engr Ita Nyong as well as other members of the association.
