NPC Rounds Off 2022 Trial Census Exercise In AKS

The National Population Commission, Akwa Ibom State has brought to a close one of the major activities of preparing for the 2023 Housing and population in Nigeria.

In a press release issued and signed by State Director, NPC, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Emmanuel Edem on behalf of the Honourable Federal Commissioner reads in part, “the Trial Census Activities in Akwa Ibom State which lasted from June 27, 2022 to 30th July, 2022 has ended successfully. The Trial sought to test all phases of the main census, from planning to the execution of the plans, logistics arrangement and management, questionnaire design and format, training procedures, fieldwork operations, publicity, payment system, data processing, data tabulations and analysis in order to provide a frame for the conduct of the actual Census”.

The release listed nine LGAs that were selected for the exercise as, “ The 2022 Trial Census exercise was conducted simultaneously in  the Nine (9) selected Local Government Areas in the State namely: 1. IBIONO IBOM LGA – Okoita; 2. URUAN LGA – Ine Owod Fishing Port, Issiet Ekim, Ine Amadung, Ine Mkparawa, Ine Moses  and parts of Adadia 3. UYO LGA – Use offot; 4. INI LGA – Ndiya Ikot Imo and Ikot Etokeren and 5. ABAK LGA – Edem Urua. Others according to the release are 6. ETIM EKPO LGA – Obong Ntak; 7. EKET LGA – Ikot Abia; 8. OKOBO LGA – Atiabang Nduong  and 9. MKPAT ENIN LGA – Ikot Akata respectively”.

The State Director extends appreciation to critical stakeholders who at one point or the order supported the commission while carrying out their assigned duty, “In the light of the above, the National Population Commission greatly appreciates the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State for his concern and support so far in all Census activities. The Commission also acknowledges and commends the leadership of the bureau of Political Affairs and Social Reorientation, AKS;  Hon. Commissioner,  Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Executive Chairmen of the 9 LGAs where the Trial Census took place, Traditional Rulers, Village / Family Heads, Political Class, Opinion leaders, Women, Civil Society Groups, the Press,  Youth Organizations and the entire Stakeholders for their collaboration and support toward the successful conduct of the exercise. Most importantly, the Commission is grateful to the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State command and other security echelons for providing a conducive environment for her field functionaries during the just concluded exercise. As a Commission, we strongly anticipate more support, engagement and collaboration in the actual Census come 2023”.
