In Niger Delta, youths population is estimated at 29 million, about nearly two-thirds of its population below 30 years of age according research. Niger Delta region is characterized by extremely high poverty levels. 70 percent of youth in the region live below the poverty line and this is the reason for militancy, kidnapping and other social vices that thrive in the area.
In recognition of this, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Development Commission, His Excellency, Obong Nsima Ekere has taken it upon himself to train youths of the region in various skills acquisition since assumption of office. In his effort to further develop youths of the Niger Delta Region, ONE launched a-2-day program is designed only for youths aged 15 – 35, resident in the 31 local government areas of the state for about 310nbeneficiaries 10people per Local Government Area.
It is a truism that the digital revolution happening around the world holds enormous potential in addressing the youth employment challenge, where today translates into two out of every five young people across the world being unemployed or working but living in poverty. In his quest to equip young Akwa Ibomites with digital skills to enable them get conducive and decent jobs, Obong Nsima Ekere launched the Obong Nsima Ekere Digital Empowerment Initiative, codenamed ONEdigital.
ONEdigital seeks to leverage the growing potential of the digital economy and demonstrating Nsima Ekere’s unparalleled commitment to the promotion of youth capacity building in Akwa Ibom state. Participants who learnt what it takes to build a successful startup and become a skilled and knowledgeable Digital Entrepreneur.
The ONEdigital training was ideal for individuals who have the passion, creative energy, vision & insight to start and grow online business or those who simply wish to upgrade their CVs and employability. The training which centered on Recharge Card business; Mobile Money Business; Bulk SMS & Phone Number Generation and Setting up Courier Services. Others were Professional Blogging; Graphics Design; Social Media and Blog Automation
The training took place successively September 16-17, 2018 in Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District of Eastern Obolo, Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno, Ikot Abasi, Mbo, Mkpat Enin, Okobo, Onna, Oron, Udung Uko,urue Offong/oruko. September 18-19, 2018 in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Distrct of Abak, Essien Udim, Etim Ekpo, Ika, Ikono, Ikot Ekpene, Ini, Obot Akara, Oruk Anam, Ukanafun as well as Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District of Etinan, Ibesikpo Asutan, Ibiono Ibom, Itu, Nsit Atai, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Ubium, Uruan, Uyo, which took their turn on September 20-21, 2018.
