Honour according to Oxford Advanced Learner’s dictionary is a great respect and admiration for somebody. So was the case when on Friday 13th May, 2016 the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) rolled out drums to honour one of its own, Mr. Moses Frank Ekpo, a journalist par excellence, a journalist guru and the Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor.
The occasion took place at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive off IBB Avenue, Uyo and attracted who is who within and outside Akwa Ibom State including the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel represented by the commissioner for Information, Deacon Aniekan Umana; the State Chief Judge, Justice Stephen Okon; National President of NUJ, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile; Former Editor, National Concord, Mr. Nsikan Essien; Pioneer National President, National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Dr. Branda Akpan; Clan Head of Offot Ukwa Clan Council, Etebom Sylvanus Okon. Some national executive officers of NUJ and others within and outside the state and the profession.
This honour to a worthy doyen of the profession, Mr. Moses Ekpo, MFR came on the heels of the Rebirth Renaissance under the able leadership of a younger ambassador, fondly known and addressed in the journalistic parlance as the Architect of the New NUJ, Elder Patrick Albert whose tenure so far had brought about both physical and psychological transformations in the profession including structural transformation among them are ongoing 2-Story Building Office Complex, completed NUJ Mini Club House, newly furnished Mini Conference Hall security gate house with garden, new established ICT Centre for members as well as laptop computers for members and increase in the number of members and chapels.
Against this backdrop therefore, Century Newsfront Newspapers joins millions of Nigerians and the Union in congratulating the honoree for this deserving respect. Moses at the peak of his career with the Nigeria chronicle Newspaper in his column “Mosaic” informed, educated and entertained the reading populace.
We, also in the spirit of Comradeship extend our right hand of fellowship to the state council of the NUJ by calling on members to close ranks and work hard with Elder Patrick Albert to complete the lofty programmes earmarked for the council.
Mostly, while giving God the glory for seeing and honouring Moses as the Moses of our time giving Governor Udom Emmanuel anchorage as his Deputy we implore members of the Realm to give their mandate to Patrick Albert in the forthcoming NUJ election for him to continue in his bid to make the council a safe haven as Moses did to the Israelites. Finally, we say bravo to all the Moses’ of our time in the profession and wish them more grease on their elbows.
