A primary six pupil in Eket, Master Elisha Akpan Daniel is to enjoy full scholarship throughout his secondary education. This is courtesy of the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Luke.
Daniel was among orphans and widows who attended the end of year thanksgiving service organised by the Akwa Ibom state chapter of the Legislators Wives Association (LEWA) on Friday. The orphan attracted the attention of the Speaker when he filed out together with other orphans to receive monetary support and other items provide by LEWA on the occasion.
The Speaker, who was moved by the child’s story, said he and his family will provide funds to see Daniel through his secondary education. While handing over his particulars to an aide of the Speaker, Daniel, a pupil of Holy Child Primary School, Idua Eket, was full of praises for Barr Luke. He promised to work hard in school to justify the scholarship given to him.
Earlier in her address, the President of LEWA and wife of the Speaker, Dr. (Mrs.) Onofiok Luke, expressed gratitude to God for seeing their spouses through their legislative engagements during the year and the protection of their families. Mrs Luke said members of LEWA will continue in their yearly reach-out projects to the less privileged so as to touch more lives.
No fewer than 78 widows and orphans selected from the 26 state constituencies in the state smiled home with cash donations, wrappers and food items at the occasion which also had in attendance other members of the state legislature.
