Plans To Free Uyo Metropolis From Flood Is Underway

Governor Udom Emmanuel is unequivocally determined to tackle the erosion menance that used to affect Abak road, Aka road, Oron road and their adjoining Streets in Uyo metropolis.

The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang dropped a hint while leading a team of Engineers to inspect the on-going Aka-Atan – offot road construction project in Uyo. According to the designs of the erosion control all the flood from Abak road, the State Secretariat up to IBB Avenue will be channelled through Atan- offot to the drain out fall in Obot-idim.

The Honourable Commissioner for Works urged the NIGTURKS CIVIL TECHNOLOGY Construction Company Limited handling the road construction projects in Atan-offot to ensure proper channelization of the road construction project to the drain outfall, to curb cases of erosion menace that used to ravage the entire area.

He appreciated the people of Atan-offot for cooperating with the Government and the company without making unnecessary demands and erecting new structures on the right of ways of the project, expecting government to pay compensation to them.

The Works Commissioner who was on inspection tours to some of the on-going road project sites in the State in company of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ifreke Ekpa, Director of Civil Engr. Mfon Abia also inspected 3.5Km Ikot Udom-Ikot Essiet road project in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

Mr. Inyang while inspecting the project was reasonably satisfied with the level and quality of works done by the Verini construction company and he therefore urged them to ensure that all the technical specifications of the project are made and that the project is completed on record time.

The Commissioner called for the removal of some of all the structures at strategic bending in the project alignment which are capable of causing serious accidents in the area.

The Project Engineer, Engr. Piotr Pudelko who expressed appreciation for the award of contract assured the government that the project will be completed in three weeks’ time with all approved features and technical structures but called for regular funding.

The Works Commissioner also visited the 6.4km Nto-Edino – Ekwere Azu road construction project in Obot Akara Local Government Area handled by SEYANG Construction Company where he was conducted round the project site by the Managing Director of the company, Engr. Samuel Inyang.

Mr Inyang expressed happiness with the people of the area for welcoming the project into their locality noting that the Nto-Edino people have displayed maturity and sense of gratitude to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration without any recourse to erecting new structures after the area has been marked for compensation.

He urged the SEYANG `Company to sustain their tempo in order to ensure timely completion of the project which is meant for the use of the people.

The MD of SEYANG Engr. Samuel Inyang reiterated the company’s earlier promise of delivering the project with the best quality, beauty, on record time and according to all the technical specifications.
