The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk has disclosed the Local Government Council’s readiness to collaborate with the United Nation High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and its policy implementation partners to ensure they have a hitch-free exercise within the Local Government Area. He gave the assurance on Tuesday when officials of the United Nation refugee agency came to intimate the Council of their forthcoming disbursement of aid fund to inmates of the refugee camp in the Local Government Area.
Onuk said the many charitable programs of the global agency is laudable and that as the leading humanitarian aid agency, their activities continue to underscore their core mandate of protecting the rights of refugees across the world, pledging to work in partnership and give the necessary support to during their activities within the Local Government Area. He maintained that the Council will always give their backing to groups like UNHCR and RHEMA Care who continually protect the vulnerable.
Mr. Wisdom Enalebor; a registration associate from UNHCR; who spoke on behalf of the visiting team said the global aid agency will start disbursing funds to refugees across the state, including those in Itu Local Government centre.
Enalebor who said the financial aid to the immigrants is for shelter and food solicited for security support from the Council during the disbursement exercise. A position that was buttressed by Mr. Flanklin Nne; the program Officer with Rhema Care – an implementation partner agency – who said they needed all the support from the community to ensure the agencies successfully carry out their assignments in Itu Local Government.
Other Council officials who also attended the meeting include; the Vice Chairman; Mrs. Emem Ekpanya, Secretary; Mr. Enefiok Udoh, Head of Local Government Service; Mrs. Imekan Asanga, Director of Finance; Mrs. Joana Nseabasi, Honourable Councilors, Supervisors and Special Advisers.
