A student of Ritman College won a selection into the final round of the 13th Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition ahead of thousands of students from across Nigeria just as three students of Ritman University won a cash prize for second place in an inter-university quiz hosted by the University of Uyo on Friday 1st July, 2016.
Nathaniel David Brown who is an SS1 student of Ritman College (Day School) was selected as one of the best writers who will compete in the final round for one hundred thousand Naira and a laptop, while his school will get three computers and a printer if he wins first place. The Quiz was held during an Inter-University Joint Students Seminar hosted by the Department of History and International Studies at the University of Uyo.
Representing Ritman University were students of History and International Studies including Mmeyene Silas, Precious Johnson and Queenette Archibong. They won a cash prize of N15,000.
Chairperson of the event and head of department, Prof. Eno Blankson Ikpe said this was an opportunity for university students to network, interact and deliberate on issues affecting the Nigerian state and global community. She encouraged more universities to replicate such an event where ideas and solutions generated would ameliorate national problems and create room for cross-fertilization of ideas.
In his keynote address, Dr Dominic Akpan stressed that youths are plagued with innumerable challenges which if unchecked will result to the kind of security threats currently experienced in Northern Nigeria and the Niger Delta.
