… As Gen. Ihejirika, Chief Austin Umahi Ors Join the Progressive Family

When Ali Odefa and his PDP Committee assumed duties as leaders of the PDP in the southeast geopolitical zone we observed that the Odefa led committee lacks the leadership qualities to wear the big shoes left behind by His Excellency, Chief Austin Umahi, Ochiagha Ndi Igbo who has formally defected to the ruling APC and registered his membership at his Uburu country home, but Odefa and his social media miscreants engaged us in the war of words instead of having an introspection and reflecting on the truism of the issues we raised. That was where their failure began.

Instead of rebuilding the dying PDP in the southeast to stand on its feet as a virile opposition party, Odefa and his committee turned the party’s undertakers by abandoning real party politics for endless and meaningless press releases and press conferences, insulting and defaming the Ebonyi State Government and the first family. It was late Prof. Chinua Achebe who said that “It is only when we talk that we know the boys from the men”. Odefa and his committee proved they were not men as they kept talking like boys and continued to make the PDP unattractive to the people.

In their boyish talking spree, Hon. Sam Onuigbo, an Abia State member of the House of Representatives dumped the PDP and defected to the ruling APC. In his defection speech, Hon. Onuigbo cited a lack of leadership competence from his ward, Local Government, State and zonal levels as reasons for his defection. This was the first vote of no confidence on Odefa and his committee.

Now, the Southeast PDP has lost another bigwig and heavyweight in the person of the former Chief of Army Staff under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika(rtd) of the same Abia State who recently defected to the ruling APC.

Gen. Ihejirika who declared his defection to the ruling APC at his hometown, Ovim, Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State equally cited lack of leadership direction and lack of internal cohesion in the PDP as reasons for his dumping the party. This is the second vote of no confidence in Odefa and his committee.

The latest is the epochal defection of the former National Vice Chairman of the PDP; southeast zone, His Excellency, Chief(Deacon)Austin Umahi, Ochiagha Ndi Igbo gburugburu who equally registered his membership of the ruling APC at his Uburu country home on Tuesday 16th February, 2021 amidst applause upon applause from party supporters and loyalists. With these, the PDP in the southeast geopolitical zone is practically finished and this the third vote of no confidence on Odefa and his committee.

The above scenarios aside; we have it in good authority that many PDP governors, Senators, Reps members, House of Assembly members, etc are seriously negotiating their way into the APC. Governor Umahi had set the pace and others are following suit as precisely predicted by his good friend, Chief Femi-Fani Kayode, FFK.

How many votes of no confidence will be passed on Odefa and his committee before they realised that they are not only incompetent but that they have also totally destroyed the PDP in the southeast geopolitical zone?

As other remnants of the PDP in the southeast get set to dump the party, we wish to reiterate that the hope of the Igbo nation to clinch the presidency come 2023 is in the ruling APC. Therefore, let’s join hands with His Excellency, Engr. Dr. David Nweze Umahi, Fnse, Fnate, the Governor of Ebonyi State and the Chairman of Southeast Governors’ Forum and make this happen.
