The year 2020 came with a lot of preparedness from the sporting world from Champion’s league, Copa America, Spanish laliga, Cycling, Tennis, world of Golf and lots more. Covid-19 pandemic disrupted that aspect of our lives as all of these sports were brought to a standstill. Though negotiations are on going to see how the sporting world can be brought to the fore with the novel coronavirus in consideration to ensure that the spread is managed accordingly as stated in other sports.com.
Below are the list of sporting activities that are postponed and set to commence. Apparently, according to profootballtalk, there will be extremely small chance that there will be no NFL season in 2020 due to the Coronavirus outbreak but the outside world of sports has set out details regards the commencement of sporting events.
Football: * FIFA has agreed to delay the first edition of its revamped Club World Cup due to be held in 2021. *. UEFA put all club and national team competitions for men and women on hold until further notice. *. The men’s and women’s champion league finals and Europa league final originally scheduled for May have been postponed. *. Semi-finals of the CAF champions league (May1-3) and CAF Confederation cup (May8-10) was postponed. * The 2020 English Primer League clubs have discussed plans for a resumption of training this month followed by a return to action in June. *. The German Bundesliga is set to be given green light for a restart, probably from May 15 with no fans in stadiums. *. Clubs in Spain’s top 2 divisions are returning to individual training this week as organizers aim to restart Laliga in June. *. Major League soccer will open training for individual workouts from next week. *. Euro 2020 and Copa America were postponed. The two tournaments will now be staged from June 11-July12, 2020.
Baseball: The South Korean league started on may 5 without fans.
Golf: *. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning will compete in a charity golf match in May, *. The Masters of Augusta National Golf club has been rescheduled for November 12-15 from April 9-12. *. The PGA championship at TPC Handing Park San Francisco, has been rescheduled for August 6-9 from May 14-17.
Tennis: * The France open was postponed until Sept 20-Oct 4. *Professional tennis returned with the tennis point exhibition series event in Germany on May 1. * A number of high-profile male and female players will compete in the UTR Pro match series in Florida starting May 8. * Patrick Mouratoglou’s tennis acedemy in France will host a five-week series in May.
Cycling: * Giro d’Italia will begin on Oct 8, while the Spanish Vuelta will be held from Oct 20. * The Tour de France that was due to be held from June 27-July 19 has been postponed to Aug. 29-Sep 20.
Rugby League: * Australian’s National Rugby League is set for a May 28 restart after players agreed to 20% pay-cuts for the abridged 2020 session. Olympics. * The postponed Tokyo Olympic Games will now begin on July 23, 2021 and run until Aug 8. * World Athletics has suspended Olympic qualification untill December.
Paralympics: * The postponed Paralympic Games will run from Aug.24-Sep.5, 2021.
World Games: * The 2021 World Games has been pushed back by a year to avoid clashing with Olympics.
Athletics: * The World Athletic Championships scheduled for 2021 in Eugene, Oregon have been moved to the summer of 2022 because of the Olympics Game rescheduling. * The world Athletics Indoor Championships (Nanjing, March 13-15) were postponed to March 19-21, 2021.
Marathon: * Boston Marathon organizers have postponed the race from April 20 to Sept 14.
