Secondary Schools Students in Akwa Ibom State have been advised to shun vices capable of jeopardizing their future.
The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien gave the advice Tuesday when he received students of Saint Peter and Paul Comprehensive High School, Inua Eyet Ikot, Mkpanak, Ukpenekang in Ibeno Local Government Area, who were in the State Treasury Headquarters on an excursion.
Pastor Andrew-Essien reminded the students that as young people intending to pursue career in Accounting, it behooves them to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion to befit accounting “as a knowledge-based profession”. The Accountant General intimated the students that his office receives all revenues for State, makes payments as well as accounts for monies received and expended.
The Head of the treasury headquarters stated that, his office has offices across the 31 Local Government Areas, manned by sub-treasurers.
Pastor Andrew-Essien who was assisted by the HOD Administration and Supplies in his office, Mrs. Helen George, conducted the students round the Departments/units in his office, where the various Directors and heads briefed the students on their duties.
The Head of Department Accounting, Saint Peter and Paul Comprehensive High School, Mkpanak, Ukpenekang, Ibeno Local Government Area, Mr. Anthony Akpan said the choice of the Accountant General Office was to enable the accounting students to have first-hand information on the workings of the office.
Mr. Akpan lauded the State Government for prompt and regular payment of salaries, pensions and other entitlements to workers, both active and retired.
He thanked the Accountant General for receiving the students and prayed God to keep him in health to on the good works he is doing for the state and humanity.
