… Targets Over 1000 School Girls
… Calls for Support to meet Target

A community-based Non-Governmental Organisation, TeenGirls Development Foundation as part of its core mandates has set a target of reaching no fewer than one thousand school girls with sanitary pads to enhance their wellbeing and avoid certain health hazards.
Speaking to Century Newsfront, the head of the organization, Miss Ndueso Young said that the organization has so far reached out to over 500 school girls in about five different communities in the state with free sanitary pads. She added that in view of the need on 
ground, the organization is determined to double up its efforts by ensuring that about one thousand school girls receive sanitary pads that would be used for a period of one year, “the goal is to reach more girls and possibly donate sanitary pads that can last 1,000 school girls an entire year, that is, for 12 menstrual cycles”.
Explaining the rationale behind the project, Miss Young regretted that girls, especially those from disadvantaged homes are vulnerable to series of abuses, teenage pregnancy, school dropout among others as a 
result of little or no care, “from a background of seeing a lot of teenage girls who got pregnant and dropped out of Secondary Schools and coming into the larger society to know that the girl child is at the receiving end of most social ills. Data show this all the time; from Teenage Pregnancy, Child Marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (peculiar to girls), to Sexual Violence and Abuse, Gap in Access to Education”.
Ndueso Young, an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist embraced Social Entrepreneurship as a Teenager, 
has over eight years experience in the field of social and community development further explained that the PAD PROJECT is a project that is designed to break the silence and correct myths and misconception on and about menstruation; educate girls on menstrual and reproductive health, as well as personal hygiene; introduce safe sanitary pads to school girls in rural areas and inner cities as against 
the use of rags, foams, and other unhygienic alternatives which can cause health challenges and the donation of free sanitary pads to help school girls from low income families stay in school during menstruation so as to help close the gap in period poverty.
Miss Young maintained that TeenGirls Development Foundation, being a community based Not-for-profit organization, is committed to designing and implementing education-focused projects intended for the equipping and development of girls in rural communities and inner cities through 
advocacy on carefully selected three thematic areas; Education Development and Empowerment, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Values and Leadership Re-Orientation. She said that the organization has championed life transforming programs such as awareness campaigns, development summits, leadership conferences, and donation of books through her “READ TO LEAD PROJECT” and sanitary pads to school girls through her “PAD FOR GIRLS PROJECT”.
