Udom Curfew in A’Ibom: How CSP Erhabor foils Police, Soldier Fracas

As Uyo LG Vice Chairman Calls for Calm

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Itam ‘D’ Division, CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor has this morning foiled a crisis between the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army who were struggling for supremacy.

The DPO who waded into a heated argument as police made some recoveries owing to the invasion of hoodlums into private business places and carted away valuables such as deep freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, flat screen television among others during the ENDSARS protest in Uyo that has taken some days now.

One of the Army officers (name with held) who stopped one of the recovered items as was transported to the Police station at Itam, accosted those conveying the item, all efforts by police men on duty proved aborted as the army man had a long heated argument with the police until the arrival of the DPO who employed a high sense of diplomacy, including calling other army commanders before the tension could calm and the impending crisis abated.

Speaking to Century Newsfront, the Vice Chairman of Uyo local government area, Hon. Ukai Udeme Emmanuel has called for calm and promised the people especially resident and those doing businesses in Uyo that the local and state governments as well as security agencies will do everything possible to ensure that lives and property of everyone is saved and secured.

The Vice Chairman gave this assurance when he made an on the spot assessment of business premises in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. He observed that criminals that hijacked the hitherto peaceful protest and carted away people’s property. Mr. Ukai commended the state governor for his timely intervention in proclaiming curfew to forestall further destruction of lives and property in the state.

It could be recalled that prior to the pronouncement of curfew in the state by the state governor, criminals have invaded the ranks of the protesters, to burgle business premises in Uyo and carted away goods while buildings were destroyed. Places robbed such as Techno/M-mobile offices along Ikot Ekpene road by Ikpa road in Uyo; De-choice Mall by plaza; LG show room by Ikot Ekpene road by Itam flyover; access Bank, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo; Anchor Insurance House along Wellington Bassey Way in Uyo among others.
