The governorship flag bearer of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel recently received a boost in his political campaign as royal fathers in the state rose from a meeting in Uyo, the state capital to give him their support and blessing.
The royal fathers comprising clan heads and village heads from all the villages in the state said they were satisfied with the development in the state, but charged him to surpass the achievements of Governor Godswill Akpabio when he resumes office in May 2015. Speaking through the Chairman of conference of village heads, Eteidung Solomon Umanah, they assured that it was always traditional for all the village heads in the state to endorse their next governor. He maintained that they will mobilize their people to get the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) in order to be equipped for the upcoming general election.
Also speaking, Obong Johnson Obosi who spoke on behalf of the Clan heads in the state led all the royal fathers to a prayer session in which they called to endorse their resolution and deliver Mr. Udom as their next governor in the state. High point of the occasion was a voice vote in which the royal fathers raised their staff of office in affirmation of the emergence of Udom Emmanuel as governor; governor Akpabio, Mr. Bassey Albert and Chief Nelson Effiong as Senators.
In his response, Mr. Udom Emmanuel said he came to introduce himself to his fathers and promised them that he will always meet with them to seek their wise counsel in the affairs of the state. He also assured that he will build on the foundation laid by Governor Akpabio. Mr. Moses Ekpo who is Udom’s running mate also assured the traditional rulers that their welfare will be paramount in this tenure.
