The Federal Government has granted approval for the establishment of Ultra Excellence College of Technology, Uyo in Akwa-Ibom state.
Located at Atan Offot road off Mechanic Village before the back entrance of the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat complex, the board has also given a nod for interim accreditation of academic programmes and the number of streams for the take-off of the Polytechnic.
This is contained in a letter from the National Board for Technical Education Kaduna signed by the Executive Secretary, Professor Idris Bugaje to the proprietor of Ultra Excellence College of Technology.
According to him, the programmes include ND Accountancy, ND Computer Science, ND Electrical Electronic Technology as well as ND in Statistics.
Conveying the approval of the Minister of Education to establish the institution in line with the provisions of Act Cap E3 LFN 2004 with effect from June 2022, the board noted that the approval was sequel to the application and subsequent resources inspection visit to Ultra Excellence College of Technology in Uyo.
Professor Bugaje while congratulating the proprietor of Ultra Excellence College of Technology on the feats, called for strict compliance to the regulation and government policies as it affects private Polytechnics.
With the development, the NBTE has directed that admission of students into the approved programme should commence from the 2022/2023 session, adding that, the approved programmes will be due for initial accreditation when the first set of students are in the third or fourth semester of their studies.
Meanwhile, the approval of the college of technology has elicited positive reactions from a renowned economist and educationist in Nigeria, professor Akpan Horgan Ekpo. At the unveiling of the Ultra Excellence College of Technology during the 2022 graduation and prize giving ceremony of Ultra Excellence Model schools, Nine Ekpot Ossom Street, Afaha Offot, Off Abak Road, Uyo, Professor Ekpo who chaired the occasion expressed delight over the strides recorded by the School, saying that with the coming on board of Ultra Excellence College of Technology, a private Polytechnic, Akwa Ibom is in for continuous training of manpower to address the technological deficit for enhanced socio economic transformation of society.
Prof. Akpanekpo, former Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo whose footprints have gone beyond the shores of Nigeria, saluted the visioner of Ultra Excellence Model Schools, Reverend Ekpedeme Moffat Efanga and staff of the school for effective moulding and mentoring of future leaders through discipline, hardwork, perseverance and valour.
The commandant of Ultra Excellence Model schools, Reverend Ekpedeme Moffat Efanga appreciated the former Vice Chancellor, Uniuyo, Professor Ekpo for his modest contributions and notable impact on the educational growth of the country.
Rev. Effanga who is also the General Superintendent of Qua Iboe Church explained that Ultra Excellence College of Technology is an upshoot of Ultra Excellence Model schools established 13 years ago and appreciated God for the expansion the school has so far witnessed. According to Revd Effanga, Ultra Excellence College of Technology will commence its academic programmes by September 2022.
