Following the devastating news of the kidnap, rape and gruesome murder of one of his constituents, Miss Iniubong Ephraim Umoren, the Member Representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep.Unyime Idem has visited the family to condole with them over the tragic event.
While condoling the family, the Ukanafun born lawmaker, pointed out that the late Miss Umoren was a young, aspiring and promising Nigerian with enormous potentials, regretting that her life and dreams were cut short by a blood thirsty monster who lured and murdered her in cold blood. He further described the deceased as a young lady who dared to be different, chose to work with her own hands to earn a living rather than relying on others or cut corners.
He stated that the only crime of the deceased was to live a decent and exemplary life, serve as a role model to other young ladies, desired to get a paid job and fend for herself. Rep. Idem, the Deputy Chairman Communications Committee in the House of Representatives condemned in strong terms the barbaric act and sympathised with the family and friends of the deceased. He assured the family that he will follow-up until the matter reaches a logical conclusion.
He appealed to the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant security agencies to carry out a discreet investigation in a bid to unravel the circumstances that led to the murder of his constituent and to ensure speedy justice of the matter.
Rep Idem promised to do his utmost in protecting the interests of his constituents at all times and advised the bereaved family to take solace in the Lord even as he prayed for the soul of the departed to find eternal repose.
Responding on behalf of the bereaved family, Ukeme Umoren, expressed deep appreciation to Rep. Idem for canceling his flight back to Abuja and for being the “first” person to visit and identify with his family in their moment of grief, describing it as a practical demonstration of love, care and concern for his constituents.
He disclosed that his family members are not safe as they have been inundated with threat calls and therefore appealed for the provision of security from the State government. He cried for justice for his slain sister.
The Village Head of Nung Ita Ikot Essien in Oruk Anam where the deceased hails from, Chief Akan Umoren and the former Vice Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Council, Elder Edwin Udofa said the death of Iniubong was shocking as she was preparing for her National Youth Service Corps programme.
They commended Rep Idem for the visit and appealed that government should ensure justice prevails on the matter. Recall that a few days ago, social media was awash with the news of the disappearance and gruesome murder of late Miss Iniubong Ephraim Umoren, whose dastardly act was masterminded by Uduak Frank Akpan, a 20-year-old student, who promised to assist her to secure a job. It turned out that the job was a ruse as late Miss Iniubong never returned from the supposed interview. She was kidnapped, raped, murdered in cold blood and buried in a shallow grave according to a Police report, by the suspect in his father’s compound.
Late Miss Iniubong Umoren, a 26-year-old graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo, was an orphan in a family of 4, from the Umoren Royal Family of Nung Ita Ikot Essien, in Oruk Anam LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
