Uyo Senatorial District candidate of the (ADC) African Democratic Congress, Princess (Dr.) Victoria Ibokette has promised to take labour matters very seriously if elected to the Red Chambers of the National Assembly.
Dr. Ibokette made this promise at the labour Solidarity Center when she was hosted by a cross-section of members and Exco of Women Wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Akwa Ibom State Chapter led by its chairperson, Dr. (Mrs.) Anietie Atai.
The Uyo Senatorial District hopeful assured them that though she is not going to the National Assembly to represent women alone, she promised to amplify the needs of women and also draw all benefits that are meant for women from the government comes to them directly. She regretted that allocations and provisions the government made for women are lying waste because there is no stronger voice to lobby for it and that she is aware, ready, 
willing and able to ensure that the rights of women are brought back home to the women of Uyo Senatorial District if elected.
Addressing the Labour Leaders’ Wives led by its President, Mrs. Rosemary Sunny James, Dr. Ibokette said that political participation whether at the labour wing or conventional was not destined for men only. She maintained that women, being known as the best managers of men and resources if given the opportunity will perform better. She added that if women rose to the challenge, they will help the men folk to reposition the country.
She challenged them to utilize their professional prowesses and get 
involved in mainstream politics to salvage the country while urging them to speak to their husbands and people around them to support her in her quest to emancipate women and bring them out from the political and economic caldron.
Speaking to the leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Akwa Ibom State wing, the Uyo Senatorial District candidate of the ADC, Princess (Dr.) Victoria Ibokette appealed to members of the body to give her full support to emerge as Senator as she is ably qualified for the job. She also said that since she is the first female contestant for the top job, consideration should be given to her as a woman as she will never 
disappoint the people of Uyo Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State.
In their separate responses, they promised to go back home, put their houses in order and come out strong to drum support for her as the first female candidate to vie for the exalted office. In his remarks at the TUC solidarity center, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Dominic Abang while thanking the ADC family led by its state Chairman, Engr. (Dr.) Etimbuk Umoh and the party Secretary, Hon. Victor Umoh for not taking TUC for granted added that TUC members cannot be wished away in the polity of the state in view of their strategic role, “We are people that strategically observe political terrain, we are the people that know the needful that should be done in the society, we carry the activities and implement them, we implement the policies of government, we sit down and formulate policies for the betterment of our workers”.
