Use Formal Education for Economic Devt – Udom Tasks Youths

Governor Udom Emmanuel has called on graduates in the country to look beyond their fields of specialization in their quest to make ends meet, saying the dynamic nature of today’s society is dictated by ideas rather than certificates.

Speaking at a Variety Night organised for the Batch ‘B’ National Youth Service Corps members at the State Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai, the Governor urged youths to see education as a foundation for self actualisation, which should stimulate their thinking and propel them to break new grounds in coping with the challenges of the dynamic society.

 He explained that “every man’s rise to greatness is shrouded in such segments as foresight, insight and hindsight”, advised the corps members to take up their destinies, knowing that their attitude will determine their altitude of breakthrough in all their endeavours.

Governor Emmanuel, who admonished the corps members to leave indelible footprints in their places of primary assignment, enjoined them to mentor other youths to embrace education. According to him, “windows of opportunity abound for you to acquire skills that would sustain and make you employers of labour.”

The Commissioner for Youth And Sports, Mr Monday Uko, who set the tone for the night of interaction, said that the event was put up to enable the Corps members unwind from the hectic and routine camp activities.

He thanked the Governor for keeping to his promise to update facilities at the Camp and stated that work on the hostel block and toilet facilities have reached advanced stages of completion.

Mr. Uko particularly commended the NYSC officials for their dedication to duty and the Corps members for their high sense of maturity during their stay in the Camp, charging them to exhibit such sense of self probity in their assigned places of service.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Lady Ngozi Chukwuka, who spoke on the youth friendly disposition of the Governor described him as the father of the youths, and thanked him for his decision to provide additional facilities at the Orientation Camp.

Lady Chukwuka, noted that the facilities would go a long way to alleviate the sufferings of the corps members, and lauded the Commissioner for Youth & Sports for helping to ensure a hitch-free camping exercise.
