Uyo Elders Forum Affirms Prince Enobong Uwah As Political Leader

By Osondu Ahirika

Uyo Elders Forum Forum yesterday,  Wednesday January 19, 2022 affirmed the conferral of Political Leader of Uyo on Otuekong Prince Enobong Uwah as earlier proclaimed by the people.

This was the consensus decision reached by the Uyo Elders Forum comprising leaders and stakeholders from the 14 Wards of the Local Government Area in their enlarged meeting held at the Shelter Afrique Estate residence of Prince Uwah.

It will be recalled that the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Sir Charles Udoh, had on December 31, 2021 proposed the need for Uyo to fill the vacuum of Political Leadership occasioned by the demise of Sir Val Attah and sued for support for Prince Uwah to be so recognised during the Annual Get-together held at the Uyo Local Government Council Secretariat.

The motion was consequently supported and moved by a former member who represented Uyo State Constituency in the Aķwa Ibom State House of Assembly,  Hon Elder Archibong Inyang and overwhelmingly accepted by the people of Uyo.

In his tone-setting speech, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State local government commission, Rt. Hon. Monday Eyo sued for support and cooperation of the Elders to enable Prince Uwah to succeed in office. He congratulated Prince Uwah and lauded him for his patriotism and zeal in public service.

Uyo Council boss, Dr Uwemedimo Udoh, on his part, thanked the people of Uyo for rallying around Prince Uwah who he said has paid his dues and contributed immensely to the growth and development of Uyo and the people. He assured the new Political Leader of support and prayed to God to grant him wisdom to navigate his new role for the good, unity and prosperity of Uyo.

Other speakers at the meeting included Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka, the member representing Uyo State Constituency, Sir Charles Udoh, Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Dr. John James Etim, Hon. Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Obong Augustine Ikpe, Hon. Chris Udofia, Chief Clement Ekott, Obonganwan Mfon Udoukpo and Hon. Ifiok George. The meeting was attended by over 70 Elders from Uyo. In their goodwill messages,  They all affirmed their belief that a new era has begun in Uyo and congratulated Prince Uwah on his new status which they said is well deserved.

In his response,  Prince Enobong Uwah thanked the Elders of Uyo for coming out in their numbers to grace the event. He appreciated the people of Uyo for their unalloyed support and the confidence reposed on him, assuring that, despite his surprise at the vote by Uyo people to formally install him the Political Leader,  he will not betray their trust.

Prince Uwah also thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for his magnanimity in appointing him and other illustrious Uyo sons and daughters to serve in his administration.  He acknowledged that this has given them leverage to impact positively on the people of Uyo and the State at large.

He accordingly charged the people of Uyo to remain steadfast and unwavering in their support for the completion agenda of Governor Emmanuel and his succession plan.
