The Executive Chairman of Uyo local government area, Elder Imoh Okon has pledged the commitment of his government to ensure that Uyo regains her pride of place.
The Chairman made this during his address in one of the centres at Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Okubo where he serves as special guest of honour. He called on the indigenes of Ikot Okubo to run back to God, their creator to ensure speedy development of the area. The Council Boss who arrived at the venue of the meeting with his dear wife, Deaconess (Mrs.) Idaraesit Imoh Okon decried what he described as poor condition of the area, which as one of the communities within Uyo metropolis, there is no single road in the community apart from Abak road.
He acknowledged and commended the contributions of the church especially Deeper Life Bible Church the officiating ministry for taking the burdens of the societies to God with a view to bringing positive change and enthroning righteousness in the land. The council helmsman called on the people of Uyo local government area to support the government of Governor Udom Emmanuel to benefit from the dividend of democracy and pledged to support Ikot Okubo community in their quest for development.
Earlier in his welcome address, the village head of Ikot Okubo, Eteidung Sunday Asian Akpan whose message was delivered by one of his lieutenants, Elder Isaiah Udo who appreciated the effort of the church and urged Christians to always pray for leadership at all levels as they are from God.
Speaking to newsmen soon after the event, the village head of Ikot Okubo, Eteidung Sunday Asian Akpan also thanked the church, Uyo local government for initiating the solemn assembly and appreciated those who turned out for the programme. He called on the chairman of Uyo local government area to assist in grading some of the roads in Ikot Okubo, which have been in the deplorable state for a long time. He also called on the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to intervene in the condition of the community by constructing internal roads within the community, “these calls are very important given the contributions of Ikot Okubo to the state governor especially during the last governorship election when we voted massively for the governor’s emergence. Aside that, Ikot Okubo is strategically located at the heart of the town but we don’t benefit in any sense, not even appointment in the state or local government”, he decried.
Also speaking, the group pastor, Deeper Life Bible Church, Ikot Obiobo Group of Districts, Pastor Saviour Ekpe noted that the solemn assembly was borne out of sincere desire to bring liberation and redemption to the entire Ikot Okubo community. Pastor Saviour Ekpe, who is also the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Newsfront Newspapers noted that the church is not only interested in souls but their welfare given that the body needs a peaceful and godly atmosphere to operate and serve God.
In his homily, the State Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor Emmanuel Amaeze who preached on the topic, “Enthroning the Exalted Christ and Partnering with the Unfailing God for Progress”, noted that progress of any community will come when the Exalted Christ is enthroned in any community.
The State overseer who was represented by Pastor Ime Morgan named kingdoms, Kings and leaders that partnered with God especially during their calamities and God heard their prayers and healed their lands such as Nineveh, Jehoshaphat etc. He explained others who prayed to God and God turned His ears from hearing their prayers because despite their prayers, they were still practicing evil (Isaiah 1:11-15). The guest minister noted that for progress to be seen in any community, there must be repentant, humility and enthroning God in the lives of the people as well as community for Divine intervention (Isaiah 1:16-20; 2 Chronicles 2:14). The solemn assembly, which was christened, ‘Redeeming Ikot Okubo for Christ’ featured songs ministrations from Uyo local government council Choir, Deeper Christian Life Ministry Choir, prayer sessions, praise and worship, deliverance among others.
