The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has awarded contract for the construction of Uyo Out-Fall Drain Phase ll from Nsikak Eduok – Oron Road-Tropicana complex in Uyo.
The Governor in his statement during the Flag-off of the Construction said the Uyo Outfall Drain Phase II in Uyo is to tackle the flood ravaging areas in Ewet Housing Estate, part of Osong Ama, Edet Akpan Avenue and Oron road, as well as Akwa Efak, Itiam Ikot Ebia and Itiam Etoi Communities.
Governor Udom Emmanuel explained that the choice of Julius Berger Plc. for the job is that of the company’s track record of competency and he assured the people that within four months, Julius Berger Plc. will complete the contract according to specification.
Earlier, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang disclosed that 4.6 Km length of Out Fall Drain with the first finger beginning from Ring Road III to Obot Idim and the Second finger from Tropicana to Obot Idim has already been awarded and partly completed as Phase I of the project by the former administration. The Works Commissioner stated that the second Phase ll awarded by His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel starts from Nsikak Eduok to Oron road to Tropicana.
Mr. Inyang explained that the Phase II of Uyo Out Fall Drain Project will de-flood about 3.5 square Kilometre of Water shed area of part of Edet Akpan Avenue and Oron Road, as well as, Akwa Efak, Itiam Ikot Ebia and Itiam Etoi communities, etc. He stressed that the project will impact positively on the lives of people as issues associated with floods in those areas will be things of the past.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works Dr Ifreke Ekpa lauded the environmental friendly disposition of Governor Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom and expressed the hope that the project when completed will have socio-economic impact in the lives of the people of the area and Akwa Ibom State at large.
