WORLD PEACE DAY 2022: PIIRI Calls For Global Peace

It was a gathering of great minds from all walks of life earlier today at Onyema Ugochukwu Auditorium, Town Campus University of Uyo, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital as great scholars assembled to mark this year’s world peace day themed, Peace & Security: Catalyst for Sustainable Development to mark the United Nations declaration of world peace Day on September 21 every year.

At the opening address, the President of Peace international interdisciplinary Research institute(PIIRI) said that the 2022nd International Peace Day Conference was organized to  provide a premier interdisciplinary platform for participants to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, concerns, practical challenges and recommend solutions for adoption in the field of Global Peace and Security for sustainable development of a better society and the world at Large

Prof. Peace Udosen who is Rector of Peace polytechnic Abak harped on Peace, Security and their crucial role in the sustainable development of any society and the world at large. He congratulated all the awardees on their well-deserved nomination and investiture of the Honorary Doctorate Degree Award (Honoris Causa) and charged them to justify the confidence reposed on them by this nomination by being innovative and hungry for more knowledge to impact human life and society. A total of five persons were honoured with honorary doctorate degree awards while some were distinguished and recognized in different fields of human endeavours.

Also, the 2022nd World Peace Day witnessed the presentation of keynote papers by various great academics reiterating the all-importance of peace and security in the state and Nigeria at large even as the country is drawing closer to the season of electioneering campaign in the country. All youths were admonished to steer clear of thuggery and violent crimes, and avoid being used as tools to cause violence and destruction by the rich in the society.

In his remarks, the Director, Akwa Ibom State Center For Alternative Dispute Resolution, Rev. Fr. (Barr.) John Ebebe acknowledged the need for peace among individuals, families, religious gatherings and society at large. He sued for peace and peaceful existence to be maintained by all as this, according to him will engender harmonious living.

The Director who explained the essence of setting up the body to include arbitration, mediation, reconciliation etc. called on participants to take advantage of their services while helping in the spreading of the message to those who may have a need, pointed out that their services are free to members of the public.

Prominent scholars presented papers were Dr. Emmanuel Inokon, The Paradox Of Peace Keeping And Peace Enforcement In Nigeria Society; Dr. Rchard Thompson Akpabio, Peace and Security: a catalyst for sustainable development; Saviour Ekpe, Communicating Peace in Nigeria Amidst Daunted Security Challenges among many others.
