Youths from thirty-one local government areas in Akwa Ibom State have been given an orientation seminar for positive mindset yesterday at Ibom Hall by the wife of the state Governor, Mrs. Mater Udom Emmanuel during a seminar marking the activities of her one year anniversary of FERAP her first project.
Addressing them, Mrs. Udom Emmanuel said most crimes in the society are committed by the youths. To achieve greatness and change mindset, she advised them to shun violence, cultism, become a self reliance and responsible citizens in the state. The wife of the Governor maintained that youths must be educated, update their knowledge with information communications and technology, and discover their talent to be able to compete favorably with their contemporaries.
She added that the present administration is passionate about youth’s empowerment assuring that she will continue to support the governor to ensure that youths achieve greatness. Mrs. Udom Emmanuel further said that she has many programmes prepared for youths saying that the second phase of the programme is to focus on training and empowerment of youths. She call for cooperation and patience while also encouraging them to be well equipped in different profession to be able to fit in when opportunities emerged to the industrialization drive of the government.
The governor’s wife warned youths not to allow themselves to be used to carry out crimes but work with government to make the state a better place. Mrs. Ime Inyang, the coordinator of FERAP speaking that the seminar was organized considering many challenges facing the youths in the society.
Mrs. Inyang emphasized on importance for the youths to use their talent and skills for some development in growth of the state. In that seminar, participants were lectured on building responsible youths for the future, entrepreneurship, youth development and exploring opportunities in business. The resource person also emphasized mostly on “the use of ICT in Business and how to Develop Business Plans” as well as “continue violence against women the way forward”.
