AKS NPC Ready For 2023 Population and Housing Census – Engr. Ukpong

As part of the final stage of preparation for the 2023 National Housing and Population Census, the National Population Commission, Akwa Ibom State is fully equipped and prepared for the exercise in all its ramifications.

This assurance was dropped by the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission, Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Benedict Ukpong, the Okete Okete Oro led the management team and other key staffers of the commission on tour of the local government offices to ensure compliance. Accompanied by the State Director of National Population Commission, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Emmanuel Edem, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the timely completion of work in each of the 31 local government offices in the state. He particularly appreciated the neatness of the job and the local government staffers for their cooperation. According to the Commissioner, “We had to embark on aggressive renovation of all our offices in the local government areas to proffer a good working environment for our staffers because of the expected assignments that await them during the census exercise”. He emphatically praised the local government comptrollers whom he described as star-studded for overseeing the work to its logical conclusion.

The Honorable Federal Commissioner extolled the leadership prowess of the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra for his dedication and commitment to ensure that the 2023 National Housing and Population Census is a reality. He thanked the Chairman for the prompt and timely release of funds for the projects and for securing date for the Census exercise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The team inspected the renovated offices as well as census materials for the conduct of the 2023 National Housing and Population Census in the state, which have already been delivered to all 31 local government areas of the state. The Commissioner, however, called on the people of the state to effectively participate during the exercise and submit themselves to be counted as this will form part of the indices for the distribution of social amenities and planning of development programmes for the good of the people.

The team also visited all three senatorial districts of the state with stops over at Uruan, Okobo, Oron, Etinan and Abak local government areas. In some of the places visited, local government Comptrollers while welcoming the team conducted them around the facilities and materials under their possession with determination and readiness to effectively utilize those materials during and after the census exercise.

Among those who were present during the visit in some of the local government areas were mothers who visited the NPC offices for the birth certificates of their children while Dr. Usen, the Medical Director in charge of Amammong General Hospital appreciated the commissioner for providing medical facilities in the hospital.
