FG, Firms Partner To Electrify Communities In Kogi, Others

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has announced a partnership with CrossBoundary Energy Access Assets Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of CrossBoundary Access, a leading project financer of mini-grids in Africa, and ENGIE Energy Access Nigeria, a leading provider of solar home systems and mini-grid solutions.

This collaboration is set to bring clean and stable electricity to 15 rural communities spread across Nigeria. Under this public-private partnership agreement, a portfolio of mini-grids will be constructed to connect hundreds of households and micro-businesses in underserved and unserved rural communities. This initiative reflects the commitment of the present administration to enhance power supply and increase access to reliable electricity for these communities.

Abba Aliyu, Head of the Project Management Unit at the Rural Electrification Agency, expressed his enthusiasm during the signing of the project agreement in Abuja, the nation’s capital. He emphasized that this partnership is a significant step towards addressing the energy needs of rural areas and advancing the development agenda of the country.

Managing director of CrossBoundary Access, Humphrey Wireko, who signed on behalf of his firm, affirmed their commitment to the project. He revealed that the project is poised to provide power supply to the benefiting communities within the next six months, boosting economic growth in the community.

Onyinye Anene-Nzelu, Head of Mini-Grids at ENGIE Energy Access Nigeria, emphasized the impact of this initiative. With an enabling business environment, ENGIE Energy Access is set to provide scalable energy access Mini-Grids to Nigerians in rural communities, contributing to economic development and reducing Nigeria’s energy access deficit The highlight of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing event was the exchange of official documents, signifying the commencement of the project.

As Africa’s leading mini-grid and off-grid, Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGo) solar energy solutions company, ENGIE Energy Access is dedicated to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) of universal energy access. The company has already positively transformed over 9 million lives in nine countries and aspires to impact 20 million by 2025.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in the quest to bring electricity to underserved communities, creating opportunities for economic growth, improved living conditions, and a brighter future for all.
