A member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly representing Essien Udim State Constituency, Hon. Prince Ukpong Akpabio has called on the Police hierarchy in the state as well as the Akwa Ibom State government to intensify efforts to curb the security menace in the state.
Prince Akpabio made this call during the plenary sitting of the state Assembly in Uyo. He said that the spate of insecurity in the state is alarming noted that poverty must have been one of the reasons, argued that while the state governor settles down for people-oriented governance, the security apparatus should create surveillance to checkmate the menace.
The motion, which came under urgent public importance and called for urgent action was seconded by a member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Moses Essien added that there was a dire need for the security architecture in the state to rise for the challenge as Akwa Ibom has been known for peaceful coexistence and security.
The speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong directed the Clerk of the House and relevant bodies including security agencies in the state to devise strategies to stem the tide of insecurity in the state.
