…Advocates For Equality As Princess Dr. Ibokette Visits Itu TRC

The Paramount Ruler of Itu local government area, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Dr. Edet Akpan Inyang has described the 35 per cent Affirmative Action of women in elective and appointive office as wickedness on women.
The Royal Father made this advocacy during the visit of the ADC (African Democratic Congress) candidate for Uyo Senatorial District to Itu Traditional Rulers Council recently. He described women as the managers of human and resources and better administrators in any opportunity given and should not be regarded as second class citizens by apportioning 35 per cent slot.
He noted that equality in the distribution of offices and opportunities between the men folk and the women will save the deteriorating political system in the country, “Giving women only 35 per cent opportunity to me, it is nonsense, idiotic, wickedness, it reduces the dignity of women. Equal opportunity should be given to women to display their God-given talents, they are not second class citizens, women should be given the opportunity of becoming governor, president and other important offices because they perform better, they are good managers of men and resources. The equal opportunity is outside the matrimonial homes because Biblically speaking, men are the head but in every other position, it should be equal”.
The Paramount Ruler who was flanked by all the clan heads in Itu and other community leaders advised the ADC candidate not to be intimidated by the minority syndrome but to be ready to face the challenge given her pedigree in all spheres of her endeavor, “as you are going, speak up and speak out, be bold, be articulate. Be a speaking minority, don’t allow the majority to overpower you, lobby and get things for our people, this is what we expect of you at the Senate. I know that you have good intentions for the people, go and succeed, we are solidly behind you”.
Speaking Earlier at the Palace, the ADC (African Democratic Congress) candidate for Uyo Senatorial District, Princess (Dr.) Victoria Ibokette, the acclaimed first female candidate for Uyo Senatorial District said that her journey for the Senate is to get what belongs to the people back to them as the level of marginalization is alarming.
She promised the Royal Fathers regular visits to the council if voted into the exalted lawmaking body in the country. She expressed disappointment over the level of poverty in the land despite the enormous wealth the state is endowed with, added that empowerment of the people of the district in essential areas of economic need 
including agriculture, ICT, sports as well as citing cottage industries to communities with basic needs but with available resources across the district. Special features at the event included the dedication of campaign material and prayer for the candidate and her team.
Present at the event were all the clan Heads in Itu and members of the Itu Traditional Rulers Council and they are His Highness, Etebom (Dr.) Donald Uboh, Chairman, Clan Head of Itam; His Highness, Etebom Engr. Ubong E. E. Okokon, Clan Head of Oku Iboku; His Highness, Etebom Etim Asuquo Okon, Clan Head of Mbiabo; Eteidung Effiong Bassey Ikotidem, village Head, Ikot Abiyak; Eteidung Effiong Asuquo Okon, Village Head, Ikot Ukop; Eteidung Sylvester Inwang Village Head, Efik Ibeno and Eteidung Alloysus Ebong, Village Head, Ekit Itam 2. Others are Obong Prof. Efanga Usua, Village Head, Enen Atai Itam; Eteidung Otu Bassey Ekanem, Village Head, Ntiat Itam; Eteidung Francis Akpan Williams, Village Head, Ikot Akpabio and Chief Daniel James Udoh among others.
Princess Ibokette also paid an unscheduled visit to Her Royal Majesty, the wife of the Paramount Ruler at her chambers.
