The Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko led Sixth Assembly has mandated its relevant committee to liaise with Law enforcement agencies to ensure that, justice takes its full course regarding the gruesome murder allegedly committed by one Igbo son on a native of Uruan Local Government Area, along Itu Road in Itu Local Government Area.
The Legislative arm via a resolution has also urged the Inspector General of Police and the state Commissioner of Police to ensure that, the murder case is properly investigated, treated and justice given.
The Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko, who urged the clerk, to write the Inspector General of Police and copy the state Commissioner of Police, State Attorney General and Chief Justice of the State on the resolution, described the murder as apartheid. Uko, stressed that, such wanton killing was allergic to the norms and culture of Akwa Ibom People and pleaded with the Law enforcement agencies to ensure that the case is not treated with kid gloves.
The Resolution of the assembly was sequel to a Motion sponsored by Lawmaker representing Uruan State Constituency in the Hallow Chamber, Hon. Aniekan Bassey, regarding the wanton murder of Uruan Indigene named, Daniel Bassey Solomon by one Stephen from Njikoka in Anambra State.
Hon. Bassey while presenting his sponsored motion recalled a similar incident that occurred between his niece and another non-indigene four years back, and urged the security experts to proffer lasting solution, before Uruan natives take laws into their hands. He commended the Nigeria Police Force for timely intervention, describing the murderer as heartless and inhuman. “I wish to commend the Nigeria Police Force for timely intervention. A man who has the guts to cut another in part, parcel the various parts in bags for no good reason, is not only heartless but inhuman. Uruan people are known globally as law abiding, obedience and faithful, they have been patiently waiting for justice to take its full course on this case, therefore, I want to plead with the relevant agencies to accelerate justice on this matter, as justice delayed, might be denied”. The Lawmaker posited.
In his remark, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke commended the Uruan Legislator for being in touch with happenings in his constituent, noting that, though the murder was committed in Itu, he took charge. He urged the relevant agencies to ensure that, justice that will be accrued to the offense is in tandem with the gravity of the case.
The MP for Ikot Abasi State Constituency, Hon. Uduak Udoudo, thanked the Uruan Lawmaker for calming the storm, revealing that, Uruan Indigenes would have taken their anger to the street, but not for Hon. Aniekan Bassey.
The Lawmaker for Nsit Atai State Constituency, Mr. Mark Esset noted that the murderer aside from baring investors from patronizing the state has portrayed the state as violence prone.
Hon. Nse Essien, the Deputy Chief Whip of the assembly, had recalled a similar incident that took place in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, noting that, if justice is not done, the state will be seen as harbouring murderers.
Others who spoke in glowing terms included, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon, Hon. Otobong Akpan, Hon. Emmanuel Bassey and Hon. Idongesit Ituen. It will be recalled that, the Nigeria Police Force had apprehended one Stephen from Njikoka in Anambra State, who gruesomely murdered Late Daniel Solomon Bassey, a native of Ifiayong Usuk along Itu Road in Itu Local Government Area.
