African Junior Heavyweight wrestling underway in A’Ibom

… Organizers solicit more sponsors

Plans are on top gear for the hosting of the most coveted African Junior Heavyweight Title in wrestling in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The fight organanized under the aegis of African Wrestling Council (AWC) is billed up for December, 2018 Tagged “Atomic Earthquake” will have notable and professional wrestlers across African continent including Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, Togo, D. R. Congo, Cameroun, Ghana, Angola, Zimbabwe among others storming Uyo for the big event.

            Speaking to Century Newsfront from Lagos through telephone, the President of African Wrestling Council (AWC), Elephando Bassey said that the coveted title is set to be contested for on the soil of Akwa Ibom. He noted that an Akwa Ibom Junior Heavy Weight Champion, Victor Idorenyin Ebenezer popularly known in the wrestling world as “Power Vic” of Akwa Ibom is set to fight for Africa title in his home state, “International Executive Council of the African Wresting Confederation (A.W.C) in Conjunction with the African wrestling council after its executive council meeting held at Congo Democratic Republic (CDR) on September 21, 2017 and subsequent technical committee meeting in Lagos state on October 10, 2017. The international headquarters of this great body has agreed that Victor Idorenyin Ebenezer popularly known as “Power Vic” who is the true son of  Akwa-Abasi Ibom state, Nigeria to fight for the A.W.C Junior Heavyweight Wrestling Golden Belt Title anywhere in Nigeria or Africa generally, “I want Akwa Ibom and indeed, Nigerians to know that Power Vic has been wrestling since 1990 and he fought a lot of wrestlers from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and lastly in London recently before he came back to his country, Nigeria and won a-yet-to-be-challenged Light weight Title in 2016 in Delta State”.

            The fight according to the President will feature prominent African Wrestlers across the continent. He expressed optimism that the title will come to Nigeria. Power Vic is an energetic and very powerful young man, a professionally licensed and internationally Certificated Wrestler both in Nigeria, London and other countries around the world. He has a training ground where he has been training a lot of young ones in his community, notably in the just concluded Akwa Ibom State youths Sports competition, which contestants from Ikot Abasi local government area won 11 medals through wrestling competition, coached and managed by Power Vic.

            Top African fighters are set for the contest including Bing Ifeto (aka USA Bing), a Congolese Junior Heavy Weight Champion, from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bing Ifeto in his statement posted on his social media wall said, “I am coming to defeat and totally destroy Power Vic of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria and take the title to Congo Brazzaville at all means. Akwa Ibom indigenes, expect to witness the worst disaster and tough fight of your time. I am the best in Africa. Quote me right at the end of the championship. See you then”.     Other world wrestlers will also feature at the event such as Tatanka USA; Thunder Ring N.Y; including lady wrestlers, Tresha vs Lindslay, Britain among others.

            In their statement, the local organizing committee (LOC), Oralmedia Communications, media and event managers said that the event as planned would be one of the biggest sporting events staged on the shores of Akwa Ibom State. They called for more sponsors as names of sponsors would soon be made public.
