AKSEPWMA Holds First Stakeholders Dialogue

…….Charges public on proper waste disposal

The Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Prince Akpan Ikim has called on the people to ensure proper waste management, handling and disposals. Mr. Ikim made the call while flagging- Off the first ever Stakeholders’ Dialogue 2019 in the state with the theme: REFUSE TO RICHES. -Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. 

The events which took place at Ibom Hall, IBB Way Uyo witnessed various dignitaries in attendance. In his remarks, the Chairman, Mr. Akpan Ikim thanked God for the numerous successes since the inauguration of the agency on the 5th of September 2018.

The AKSEPWMA Boss reiterated his commitments through the agency to create wealth through waste in order to create more jobs for the teaming youths in the state and also support the industrialization policy of his Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, “what we call waste if properly harnessed can go a long way in putting food on the table”. While promising to reposition the agency for the good of the people, Mr. Ikim used the occasion to present his scorecards through his publication titled; “The Emerging Model Clean State: Yesterday, Today and the Future”. The AKSEPWA boss further intimated participants on numerous awards won by the agency as follows: 2018 GREEN CRYSTAL AWARD; The Cleanest State and Capital (CCA) Awards in Nigeria; Performance Index rating by the Cleanup World (CUP); Clean Up Nigeria (CUN) and International Council for Local Environment Initiative (ICLEI) Canada 2018 and others.

His Excellency the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State Mr. Moses Ekpo who was represented at the occasion by his secretary, Mr. Nkopuruk Ekaiko called on the people to join hands together with government to build a better Akwa Ibom by keeping the environment clean.

Earlier in his address, the chairman on the occasion, Prof. Essien Udosen applauded Mr. Akpan Ikim for the giant strides he has recorded so far in the agency and the participants for turning up en masse to make the occasion a success.

Keynote Speakers at the occasion who spoke glowingly on various topics include: Waste to Wealth by Dr. Kufre Essien; Waste to Energy by Mr. Samuel Akpan; E-Waste to Wealth by Dr. J. Asuquo.

Others were the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly who was represented by the member, Etinan State Constituency, Hon. Barr. Aniefiok Dennis; Sir Val Attah among others. The event featured panel discussion and question sessions. High point of the event was the issuance of certificates to all participants and invited guests.
