In all ramifications when somebody is up to the age of 32 years, such a person is said to be of age and can marry, have children, own properties and can make positive decisions on matters of general interest. In the case of a Country, State or Local Government, it could be adjudged in terms of developments using availability of human and material resources as indices for such judgment.
Yes, Akwa Ibom State was created Thirty Two Years ago by the military Government of General Ibrahim Babangida (Retired) alongside Katsina State. Since then starting with the First Military Administrator Colonel Bako up to an indigenous Military Governor, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, First Civilian Governor, Obong Akpan Isemin, Architect Victor Akpan Udo Adiaha Attah, Godswill Obot Akpabio and presently Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel among others, the state had all these years tried to measure up with others created long time ago since the end of the civil war in the country in 1970’s by the first military Government of General Yakubu Gowon (Retired).
Against this backdrop therefore, the Century Newsfront Newspapers thumps up for the state in celebrating her thirty two years birthday. Again we give three “Kposa” to all the leaders who had in one time or the other piloted the affairs of the state either in military uniform or civilian dress since 1987 to date. We also extend kudos to all Akwa Ibomites for their co-operation with the government in making the dreams of the founding fathers a reality.
In the light of this, we opine that on or before the celebration of her golden jubilee Akwa Ibom would be a state to be reckoned with. It is therefore our humble advice that both the leaders and the led should continue to live within the armpit of the law irrespective of their political, religious, ethnic or individual differences.
Century Newsfront Newspaper further call on the leaders to seriously work on the development of Ibom Deep Seaport so that in no distant date, it could operate alongside the expected Railway with Ibom Air providing jobs to the youth in and around the state. Finally, we call on the tax payers to do the needful so that the government could conveniently carry out its function of making the state a better place to work and or live in.
