The people of Akwa-Abasi Ibom State joined other Nigerians to celebrate the freedom of the country today. At the Uyo Sports Stadium, residents within the capital city of the State from all walks of life thronged in beautiful colours as a sign of patriotism for the nation. In matching, songs, dances and many other exhilarating exhibitions, the people portrayed real excitement over the 59th year of Nigeria as an independent nation.
The smiles on the face of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and participants at the event was a promising hope of a better Nigeria as the facial reaction of the people spoke millions with Century Newsfront. Freedom, they said is the desire of God for all, thus, the quest for true freedom.
Apart from the Governor’s presence, other citizens in different attires as well as those from the academia also added their display to grace the occasion. Mrs. Theresa Ati, a senior staff in the ministry of education who led a team of children from different schools in different Nigeria’s tribal attires as sponsored by the ministry said it is joy enough to witness Nigeria growing both in strength and in age.
She however thanked God for a time like this and also encouraged all Akwa Ibomites and indeed, all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to act on the message of peace and unity preached everywhere in order to enjoy the freedom to the fullest in Akwa Ibom and the nation at large. Many voices had similar message as peace and unity is the plea of all for Nigeria.
