CP Ogunjemiluisi Devises New Approach in Tackling Crimes in AKS

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom state command, CP Adeyemi Ogunjemiluisi, mni has taken a new dimension of tackling crime in the state with a view to ensuring a crime free and safe society.

He disclosed this in a private chat in his office with our Editor-in-Chief, Saviour Ekpe last weekend in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. The Police Boss noted that his procedure in crime fighting has yielded fruits and that more sophisticated approaches are to be adopted in view of technological advancement that has given rise to crime as criminal elements also have developed new and advanced strategies to operate.

The commissioner identified partnership as a veritable means of winning the war against crimes and criminality in the state, “we have concluded plans to partner with the youths in each of the communities and student leaders in Tertiary Institutions across the state who will serve as vanguards in this fight”.

The Police boss noted that others will be to make use of young people who do not belong to any political party for effectiveness, “there is this strategy that we will called, ‘Know your neighbor’. This will be a neighborhood watch system that checkmates hoodlums and gangsterism within a community. Members of this team will make up of those that do not belong to any political party and are willing to sacrifice their time to keep their community safe, this is more or less community policing”.

CP Ogunjemiluisi acknowledged what he described as enormous contributions of the Akwa Ibom State government observed that in view of the success story of the command even with inadequate equipment at her disposal, the Nigerian Police Force is under equipped hence, the need for more equipment such as Armored Personnel Careers (APCs), patrol vehicles fitted with modern communication gadgets, modern technological equipment etc.

He called on public spirited and wealthy individual, the Akwa Ibom State government and multinational corporations to come to their aid by providing these equipment as it will enhance effective policing of the state, “when police is adequately equipped, the problem of crime and criminality would be brought to the barest minimum in the state”, he noted.
