The Political Leader of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Mr. Don Etim has dismissed the rumour making the round that, he was on the verge of joining All Progressive Congress, describing such as mere false information.
Etim, a former State Commissioner for Works, who disclosed this to newsmen in his Ikot Ekpene Residence shortly after celebrating his fifty seven birthday said that, his support for Peoples Democratic Party and Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was sacrosanct. He stressed that, the state governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has justify the confidence reposed on him by the electorates and political stakeholders, noting that, though he is managing the economy of the state at a trying time, his effort was worth applauding. He said that, anything far from Justice, Equity and Fairplay in the forthcoming re-run election, was worth committing to flame, noting that, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel’s aspiration was in tandem with political justice and equity.
The Political Leader however described the state governor as a vast intelligent fellow, whose vast experience and connection is second to none. Etim, admitted that, the state Chief Executive is managing the state resources at a very difficult time, thereby pleaded with the electorates and the entire people of the state to give him time to continue with his good works, adding that, the devil you know is better than the Angel you don’t know.
The Political Leader said that, PDP abides strictly by the judgment of the court of law, noting that, if the Supreme Court does not uphold the mandate of Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, the entire electorates in Ikot Ekpene will cue behind the umbrella political party. He claimed that, membership of PDP was swelling on daily basis, and warned people not to be carried away by the propaganda machines. “I have not received any overture from All Progressive Congress, so I wouldn’t know if that is true. APC has not reached out to me for any reason. People may go anywhere they want; also, people are coming to PDP. It is a matter of being steadfast. “I wouldn’t know if APC membership is increasing, because they have not shown us their membership strength before and after they took over. Thus, it is of no use delving into such baseless issue. “Deacon Udom Emmanuel, for me, is my choice. He is my flag bearer and I believe in him. In PDP, we have faith in the court of law, if the Supreme Court doesn’t uphold the mandate of Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, then we will go for a Re-Run. If such occur, I can assure you that, the entire electorates in ikot Ekpene will cue behind PDP. So, don’t write Udom off.
“Udom Emmanuel’s profile is vast, he is managing the state at a very difficult time, where oil price has scratched, revenue dropped…For Udom, I have not heard anything contrary to what our expectations were. We brought in a successor who will continue with uncommon development and sustain superior performance. As could be seen, he has continued with the dream of developing the state. “We knew that things will be tougher, we also knew there was a need of having someone like Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, coming from his vast business environment. “You cannot look at Akwa Ibom picture without the issue of justice, fairness and equity, as such; it is the turn of Eket Senatorial District to produce a governor. I am back in the state; I am back from a well-deserved vacation.” The stoic politician said.
