Private Schools Operators under the aegis of the National Association Of Proprietors Of Private Schools(NAPPS), have been commended for contributing significantly to the State’s economy through employment generation.
The State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, made the commendation while interacting with the Executive members of the Proprietors of Private Schools on Friday which took place at Community Secondary School, Aka Offot, Uyo
Mrs. Etiebet who lauded members of NAPPS for keying into one of the 8-point Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel administration on Job Creation charged them not to compromise on quality and standard, but to ensure only qualified teachers are employed.
The Education Boss stressed the need for uniformity in the system and urged them to adopt the school calendar set out by the Ministry of Education, alerting that Schools unapproved by the State Government would be closed down.
She harped on the importance of transfer certificates as one of the requirements for admission of students transferring from other schools, warning against all forms of examination malpractices,
She hailed the leadership of NAPPS for supporting the Government of the day and assured that critical issues raised by them would be looked into.
The Permanent Secretary, Lady Rose Bassey, while setting the tone earlier, enlightened NAPPS officials on the nature of the meeting which she said was going to be interactive and enjoined them to participate actively.
In a goodwill message, the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education, Mrs. Ekemini Umoh, urged Proprietors to pay adequate attention to Basic Education, noting that it is the bedrock and foundation of education given to children in the formative years. She also stressed the need of organizing seminars to enlighten parents on the importance of basic education.
On her part, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Dr. Sarah Esitikot spoke on the need for NAPPS to align with Government policies, urging them to shun the practice of writing exams for Students especially school-leaving examination in their quest of being seen as the best school in town.
The Chairman of NAPPS, Mr. Udofia Davies, thanked the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for placing Education at the center stage of his administration
The Chairman also appreciated the Commissioner, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, for creating an avenue of interaction, calling on her to intervene on issues affecting the body especially multiple taxations, while pledging unflinching loyalty and support to the State Government.
Also present at the meeting were, Special Assistant to the Governor on Education monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia, Representative of the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Pastor Emmanuel Ituen who is the Director, Quality Assurance Services SUBEB, as well as Directors of the Ministry of Education.
