The first female senatorial hopeful for Uyo Senatorial District has again been given royal acceptance by the Iman Ibom Traditional Ruler’s Council.
Princess (Dr,) Victoria Ibokette who received the royal anointment in Etinan to go ahead for the race as royal father noted that it is time to change the narrative by sending a female voice to the National Assembly.
It could be recalled that the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Okon had said that a female Senator would occupy the highest lawmaking chamber in the land during this period.
The gathering that was presided over by a member of the Traditional Ruler’s Council, Obong Ifiok Ukpong, Village Head of Ikot Udo-Adia Etinan said that Iman Ibom Traditional Ruler’s Council is satisfied by the pedigree and antecedent of Princess Ibokette noted that She as the Princess of the land, a lady whose royalty is inherited will do much better and will distinguish herself among other senators, being an outspoken, go-getter, industrious and highly philanthropic personified, “this is our own and we are proud of her. We cannot afford to miss her on the ground of political party or gender sentiment. She has royal blood in her and we can attest to her ability to effectively represent the senatorial district. This is the kind of representative we want in the Senate”, the royal fathers eulogised. The royal fathers noted that the electorate will vote for people not political parties during the 2023 general election and that it will be based on the individual antecedent.
Explain her mission to the Red Chambers of the Nigeria National Assembly, Princess (Dr.) Victoria Ibokette who was accompanied by the Deputy Governorship Candidate of ADC, Mr. James Udoma; her Campaign Coordinator, Bishop Obonganwan Victoria Ebeafia and a cross-section of her supporters said that her mission to the Red Chambers in Abuja is not selfish but borne out of a sincere desire to serve the people, make laws that will change the narrative of the people of Uyo Senatorial district, “I am sincere and committed to my mission, which is basically to ensure that the living condition of the people of Uyo Senatorial district changes for the better. We cannot continue to be beggars in the midst of so much, we have our oil resource but look at how our people are suffering, dying and are exposed to not only abject poverty but diseases that are coursed by oil exploration yet, no commensurate compensation”.
A member of the Iman Ibom Traditional Ruler’s Council who spoke under the condition of anonymity revealed that they gave preference to Princess (Dr,) Victoria Ibokette because of her large heart to accommodate people irrespective of where the person comes from and does not discriminate against anybody and that gave them confidence that she will not disappear after ascension to the exalted office. He added that though the party may not be popular, she is popular enough to win the election. He called all electorate from Uyo senatorial district to vote for Princess (Dr,) Victoria Ibokette of the ADC (African Democratic Party).
