Stakeholders and Statutory delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area have rejected in totality the purported Primary election for the Chairmanship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the area in the forthcoming local government election in Akwa Ibom State.
The stakeholders while addressing Journalists in Uyo said that they were surprised to hear announcement of a different list of delegates for the purported election on the AKBC radio yesterday instead of the duly elected delegates elected across all the wards in the area during the party’s Congress on September 16, 2017.
The stakeholders which was led by Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien described the radio announcement as a complete disrespect to the PDP’s mandate as duly elected ad hoc delegates for the Chairmanship primary were disenfranchised from participating in the exercise. “The announcement on AKBC Radio today 18th September 2017 is a complete disrespect to the people’s mandate as elected delegates were not announced and therefore disenfranchised from the exercise.
“We the undersigned stakeholders, Chairmanship Aspirants and the Statutory delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ikot Ekpene therefore reject in totality the purported election of today, 18th September 2017 held at the Uyo Sports Stadium, and call for the cancellation, to allow for a fair and due process to follow to safeguard the winning of the forth coming election in Ikot Ekpene “. He stated. The release which was signed by ten Chapter Executive, seven Wards Chairmen, eight Wards Secretaries etc maintained that the reason for the withdrawal is as a result of irregularities and abnormalities in the exercise.
Speaking further, Senator Ibokessien stressed that they believes the Peoples Democratic Party will listen to their protest. He also called on the good people of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area to remain calm while due process is being followed. Added that there is no other political party in the local government. “We do not believe that our party that is a party for justice and fair play will not listen to this fair play. I believe that our party will resolve this crisis in the interest of the party in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area”. Ibokessien emphasized.
